🎉 STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE MONTH! Jazmine Bishop 🎉
Jazmine has been bowling since the age of 3 years old. When asked, “What made you want
to pursue bowling?” she stated, “It started with my dad, and everyone saw my potential as I got older. I kept practicing and started getting noticed by coaches when I was young. I also saw the potential in myself and my passion grew from that.”
Her first substantial bowling achievement came when she was 10 years old, as she placed 7th
out of 150 contestants. This bowling tournament consisted of athletes of all ages. Despite going against Middle and some High school students, this 10 year old finished 7th!! Soon
after this, she realized that she had an extreme passion for the sport of bowling. From that
tournament on, she began taking it more seriously and practicing three to four times a week.
Jazmine told us, “I do a lot of drills; I practice getting spares. I work on my pre-shot routine, which plays into my mental game.”
Last year, she won her first title at the Storm Youth Mid Atlantic tournament in Odenton, MD. This tournament included athletes from surrounding states like Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, and New Jersey.
Since winning her first title, she reached new peaks with her game. After placing 2nd in another
tournament in Delaware, she received a FULL scholarship to bowl from Morgan State University.
This is an opportunity to compete at the Division 1 level!!!
Currently, she still works on her game often. She still bowls at least three times a week in
preparation for her college career. Her current average score is a 200 with her career best being a 279!!
We are super proud to call Jazmine one of our own here at CMIT South!!
**********If you have an athlete you would like to nominate for February or a sports story you would like to see featured, please email me at ksmith@cmitsouth.org.
