Reynolds' Report
Hello Roadrunner Families!
It was lovely seeing so many of you at our Family Science Night on Thursday evening! We had a ton of fun building our own marshmallow launchers, looking at fossils, and creating our own rainbows in a cup. I hope you all picked out something awesome at the book fair as well!
This week, we are looking forward to Fall Picture Day on Tuesday. It's always fun to see what style our students come to school with on picture day. No matter what style your student has, be sure to send them on Tuesday with their very best Roadrunner smile!
Looking ahead, please note that October 13th and October 16th there will be no school for our Fall Mini Break. I hope you enjoy some extra time with your students on these days.
The Fall and Spring mini breaks are a great time to schedule vacations! Travel is less expensive during the off-peak travel times, and your student won't miss any days of school. Consistent school attendance is important, as many of our subjects build on each other day over day. Plus, we miss your student when they are gone! Whatever you choose to do with your family over the Fall Mini-Break weekend, I hope you build memories and enjoy laughter together!
Have a wonderful week, Roadrunner families!

Topic of the Week
Strategies for Big Feelings : Use the Sensory Path/Take a Walk
This week, your students learned about how moving your body and exercising can help you clear you head to manage big and uncomfortable feelings.
Here at First Street School, we have three areas on our campus where students can safely move their bodies during a break if they are having trouble concentrating or need a moment to manage their feelings. These areas are called Sensory Paths. These paths take students through a series of hops, jumps, wall push ups, and spins to help them move their bodies in a way that releases energy, calms the body, and brings the student back to a state where they are ready to learn.
At home, you may not have a sensory path, but you can still move your body to help with big or uncomfortable emotions! Taking a walk with your student is a great way to move your body and also gives you time to talk to them about what is on their mind. Walking side by side means that students don't feel like they are in the spotlight, so they are more likely to open up.
Try talking a walk with your student this week when you need a break! It is great for our students to see their adults practicing the same strategies they are!

Updates and Important Information
Students on Other Campuses : A Message from the GEMS Staff
Hello First Street School,
In order to protect the safety of our students and staff, the GEMS campus is a closed campus just the like other campuses in our district. This means that any visitors to campus before, during, or after school need to check in with the office. This includes students from other schools. Please remind your students that if they are going to go onto the GEMS campus after school, they need to check into the office before coming on to campus.
Thank you for your help in keeping our campus secure!
