II. Message from the Principal
Wolfpack families,
Happy Friday! Our first full week of 2025 was just that...full! Students had multiple opportunities to connect, learn, and find joy in their day so I want to share some highlights. On Monday, I had an opportunity to speak to all of our 8th grade students in their PE classes. I presented on the power of words, the impact they can have on other people and ourselves, both in a positive and negative way. The intention, and hopefully the outcome, is to help students continue reflecting on how they speak to each other throughout the day, and how they can continue to use words to build themselves and other people up in a positive way. On Tuesday and Wednesday, our 8th graders heard from our counselors Ms. Curry and Ms. Anderson who pushed into social studies classes. The presentation shared information about high school selection for both Canyon Crest and Torrey Pines, so students can start thinking about which school may be a better fit for them. We will continue to communicate with you about the high school selection process, and if you would like to have some time with the high school principals, they will be at my Principal's Coffee on Friday, January 31, at 8:30 a.m. During this time, Mr. Coppo (TPHS), Mr. Kileen (CCA), and Mr. Ayala (Sunset) will share information about their respective schools. You are all invited to attend.
Students are engaging in a lot of great learning opportunities in their classes. Our 7th graders are doing physical fitness tests in PE, while in social studies some 7th graders are learning about the oral tradition and storytelling in West Africa. Our students in STEAM are in their robots unit where they are programming a robot to accomplish various tasks. When it doesn't work, they have to adjust the code, and it is great to see how much teamwork, communication, and problem solving is on display. Our 8th graders continue their study of social justice in English class, while in science, they are looking at potential and kinetic energy. Next week, Coach Olson will begin a new lunch league, this time with soccer. It is usually very popular and I know many of the students are very excited!
Shifting gears a little, you have heard me say that the safety of your child is our number one priority. As we all witness the devastation of the wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area, I want you to know that our site has multiple safety procedures in place, including evacuation. PTMS has a safety committee led by Dr. Hake that meets regularly, we conduct multiple drills each semester, and we have multiple ways to communicate with you should an emergency arise. As a site, and as a district, we will continue to reflect on our systems to ensure that we can care for all students and communicate with you effectively as the needs arise.
Looking ahead to next week, a gentle reminder that we will not have school on Monday as we honor and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will begin classes on Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. with period 1-3-5. Until then, I wish you a relaxing weekend.
In gratitude,
Scott Wild, Ed.D.
Principal
III. From the Assistant Principal
As a reminder, student riders (e-bikes, scooters, bicycles, etc.) are required to have a PTMS permit affixed to their vehicle if they are using it as their transportation to/from school. Failure to follow school policies and/or traffic regulations on the way to/from school may result in progressive discipline including loss of the permit and student ability to use their vehicle to get to/from school. When a student receives a new bike, scooter, etc. and plans on using it to travel to/from school, a PTMS permit must be obtained for the new one, too. To get a PTMS permit, please pick-up a permit application (parent signature required) and safety packet from Mrs. Graciano in the front office.
Attendance
Be sure you contact Attendance (858.509.1000, x4909 or PTAttendance@sduhsd.net) if your student misses or is going to miss any class time.
For more attendance information, please see the PTMS Family Handbook posted on the homepage of our website, or you can refer directly to the Attendance Page. If you have questions or concerns, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Elizabeth Williams, at (858) 500-1000 ext. 4609. Thank you!
IV. Counseling Corner
On Tuesday and Wednesday, counselors met with our 8th grade Wolves for a presentation titled “Preparing for your High School Launch” through 8th grade History classes. This presentation covered important topics such as high school graduation and UC/CSU A-G requirements, the high school selection process, a brief overview of the differences between each school, and the CTE offerings at Torrey Pines and Canyon Crest Academy. The high school selection window opens on January 24, 2025 and closes on February 13, 2025.
The Therapy Dogs visited the Wellness Center again on Wednesday to spread love and happiness! We love to see our wolves enjoying this program during their lunch break.

Annual Residency Verification - January 13 thru March 17
Annual Residency Verification is for CURRENT 7th thru 11th grade SDUHSD students ONLY - not for new incoming students. Click here for information and instructions on how to submit. It is encouraged that parents upload this information via the Aeries Parent Portal. If you are UNABLE to upload through Aeries, we will accept hard copies in the office.
If you have more than one 7th thru 11th grader in the district, you only need to submit ONE form with each of their names on that form to ONE school.
Aeries Parent Portal Uploading Tutorial - This tutorial is designed to walk parents through the process of uploading residency documentation using their parent portal.
If you have a current student AND an incoming student who will be in 7th grade next year - you must submit a separate Residency Verification for the incoming student with the other online enrollment forms you complete for the incoming student.
High School Selection - January 24 thru February 13
The window for 8th graders to select - online - the high school they would like to attend for the 2025-26 school year opens on January 24, 2025 and closes on February 13, 2025. Students who do NOT choose to select a high school will automatically go to Torrey Pines High School - the natural feeder high school from PTMS. There are two ways for students to participate in a math bridge opportunity to move from Essentials to grade-level math: 1) enrollment in an in-person summer school course or 2) participation in the Concurrent School Year Bridge Opportunity. For more information on the Summer School Math Bridge Opportunity, please click here. Students interested in participating in the Concurrent School Year Bridge Opportunity can learn more, and register, by accessing the attached information. CCA Girls in STEM
Our Club is an all girls team that provides an environment for students to explore STEM. This year, our team invested a lot of effort in putting together a lecture series for students to attend.
We would love for students from PTMS to join us! We hope to reach and inspire more middle school and high school girls to pursue computer science and engineering.
The Girls in STEM program is entirely student-run. Our group of student mentors have created a lecture series on web development in HTML/CSS. We will cover the basics of web development through four sessions, each being an hour long.
This course will start on January 27th (01/27/25) and end on February 17th (02/17/25), and meetings will be held through Google Meet on Mondays from 5:00-6:00 PST. Our course will operate similar to that of a webinar series, and each session will cover a different topic. If a student is unable to attend a lecture, a recorded version of the lecture will be sent.
All genders are welcomed! Girls are highly encouraged! We would love everyone to join our lecture series program, but we market the program as “Girls in STEM” as per our club mission.
