Principal Updates
We are excited to invite you to join us for Family STEM Night tonight as we conclude our month of giving! 💗 The event will take place at Cherry Crest from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
As we gather together, we kindly ask for your cooperation in being mindful of our neighbors when parking in the surrounding streets. It is essential that emergency vehicles have access to all side streets, so please avoid parking on both sides of the street, blocking driveways, or obstructing sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalks.
The safety of our students, families, and staff is our highest priority, especially during these dark and rainy months. Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to a wonderful evening with all of you!

Too Sick for School?
How to Know When You’re Too Sick for School
As we enter the time of year when colds and fevers tend to appear unexpectedly, the Bellevue School District wants to remind families of some important guidelines regarding when students should stay home from school. Students experiencing certain illnesses may be required to stay home to rest and recover.
The Bellevue School District's nurses and attendance team have provided helpful guidance on which symptoms indicate a student should remain at home and when they may safely return to school. Keeping sick students at home, along with encouraging regular handwashing, helps protect everyone—especially those with fragile immune systems or acute medical conditions. Learn more on the Too Sick for School webpage.
Morning Traffic & Arrival Procedures
We would like to remind you that we are very intentional about our recommended traffic flow in the morning and afternoon. 124th street should not used for incoming traffic, nor should cars use the side streets to cut into the arrival line. Please come up 32nd street to turn into the parking lot in the morning.
We will have adult staff members and volunteers in the coming weeks handing out flyers to cars who are coming up 124th to gently remind them of this expectation. If you are available to volunteer for morning traffic duty, please reach out to assistant principal. Amu Chu, chua@bsd405.org.
Student Handbook, Now Available!
Attached is the Student Handbook for 2024-2025. Our PBIS team has been working hard on updating and revising for our new school year to reflect best practices and supports for students. Please take a moment to read through our handbook and save a copy on your desktop to refer to this throughout the school year.
⭐Action Item for all Families: Please complete the form using the link below to acknowledge receipt: https://forms.office.com/r/LSTLRAsA3E
Handbook Highlight: No Smart Watches ⌚
Here at Cherry Crest, we do not allow electronic devices, such as, smart watches or cell phones. Even if your child's watch is in "school mode" we ask that all students keep smart watches in their backpacks or at home.
Fall Festivals at Cherry Crest
Celebrations
Teachers will communicate with families when fall celebrations are happening, either on October 31st or November 1st. While students may wear costumes to school on Halloween day, our celebrations are inclusive to all celebrations that may occur in the fall (i.e. Diwali and Día de los Muertos).
Never is it our intention to exclude students from school on October 31st. Please email Principal Stedman with questions at stedmane@bsd405.org.
Alternative Celebration
On October 31st, Mrs. Chu and Ms. Mykela, are hosting an alternative to Halloween.
There will be a book celebration for students who need an alternative to parties happening on Halloween day (Thursday, 10/31 at 1:30 pm).
Students will learn about bucket fillers and will listen to the story: How Full Is Your Bucket! Students will enjoy activities related to the story and are welcome to join us in dressing up as a favorite book character.
Please RSVP directly to Mrs. Chu at chua@bsd405.org.
Costumes
- Wearing costumes on Halloween is allowed, but optional (with the following guidelines: No weapons, masks, gore, or cultural appropriation)
- What is cultural appropriation? The general rule of thumb: "My culture is not your Halloween costume."
- Please be considerate as you plan costumes this year as to not reflect another person's heritage or culture that is not your own. Thank you!
Lost & Found + Extra Clothing at School
We have laid out all lost and found items in the main entrance of our school building. Please stop by during STEM night and all next week to retrieve your child(ren)'s lost items. All items will be donated after November 1st.
Please pack extra clothes for your child in their backpack. This is especially important for all grade levels during the rainy season.
Donations Needed: We do have some options of extra clothing in our clinic, but could use donations from families. If you have any extra clothing in any size, ages 5-11, please bring them by the main office. Thank you!
Student Panorama Survey
Bellevue School District is launching the Fall 2024 Panorama Student Survey to gather valuable insights into students' experiences and to further support their growth and well-being. The survey will focus on several key areas, including school climate, sense of belonging, and social-emotional learning (SEL), offering students an opportunity to share their perspectives. Learn more on the Panorama Surveys webpage on the district website.

New Sensory Friendly Performances – Bellevue Youth Theater
Bellevue Youth Theater is piloting a new program to make theatre more accessible for all: Sensory Friendly Performances. These are performances specifically designed for audiences who are on the spectrum or have other sensory-processing sensitivities.
Sensory friendly performances will have increased lighting, lower sound volumes, a designated quiet zone, sensory guides and complimentary fidgets, items in the lobby that can be touched and explored prior to the show, an actor introduction of the show, and the permitted use of digital devises. Fewer seats will be sold for these shows to make for a more comfortable viewing experience. Our goal is to welcome many into the theatre who may not have been comfortable before. Learn more by calling 425-452-7155
Upcoming sensory friendly performances will include
· The Mummy’s Revenge (November 2, 2:00 p.m.)
· Finding Nemo Jr. (November 23, 7:00 p.m.)
· Twas the Night Before Christmas (December 14, 2:00 p.m.)
