FEBRUARY IS KINDNESS MONTH-KINDNESS AROUND CAMPUS
"No Name Calling" Week January 16-January 19, 2024
No Name-Calling Week is celebrated each year in schools across the nation. It is a time for students, educators and schools to talk about ways to challenge bullying and stop name-calling in their communities.
No Name-Calling Week was inspired by the book “The Misfits” by James Howe. It is a story of 4 best friends who were tired of all the taunts and teases in their school. They came up with the idea of a No Name-calling day in the book but the idea spread to what it has become today. We have to remember to respect one another, accept our differences, learn from each other and believe in ourselves. Never let others bring you down!
Students, remember to never hurt others or call names any day of the year. By showing kindness and respect to all, we can make our schools a better place to be. Choose kindness for life!
Kind Hearts for Kindness Tree
Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 19-February 23)
During this week we will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness (RAK)! Kindness means being friendly, generous, and considerate to ourselves and others through words and actions. Kindness gives us the empowerment to be compassionate, and respectful citizens in our community. This week, we celebrate kindness and ask for our Colby Glass students, staff and families, to perform random acts of kindness for others. Remember to be kind to ourselves, to others and the earth. There will be kindness activities such as "Kind Notes", "Gift of listening", "Give Someone a Compliment" and wear purple which represents a kind heart and compassion. We will also have a RAK Wall for students and staff. Show kindness everyday!
Ideas for RAK
1. Say hello
2. Visit a friend
3. Let another go first
4. Forgive mistakes
5. Share a smile
6. Open a door
7. Lend a hand
8. Be tolerant
9. Offer a hug
10. Do an act of kindness everyday!

Camp Neff
5th Graders at Camp Neff
5th graders had the opportunity to visit Neff Middle School on January 10, 2024. They participated in team building activities, toured the campus and learned more about middle school life. Teachers gave information on classes and answered many questions from students. These students are excited about their upcoming middle school journey.
Military Pride Club
We are so excited about our Military Pride Club! These are students who may have a parent or grandparent that is currently serving or have served in the military. This club is about getting to know other students who are a part of the military community, making connections & friends, providing service through Service Projects/Acts of Kindness, support for self & others and providing resources. The next meeting is scheduled for February 9, 2024 at 7:15AM in the Library.

Guidance for Setting Positive Behaviors and Expectations at Home
Dear Parents,
The Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) Core Team wanted to provide families with a baseline of reference to make expectations at home clear and encourage positive decisions. We collaborated on a matrix for at home use so that students can continue the positive behaviors/expectations we see at Colby Glass in the home as well.
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is an approach to behavior support that includes research-based assessment, intervention, and data-based decision making focused on building social and other functional competencies, creating support contexts, and preventing the occurrence of problem behaviors.
PBIS may be applied within a multi-tiered framework at the level of the individual and at the level of large systems (e.g. families, classrooms, schools).
Please use the at-home PBIS Matrix blow as a reference for your child to exemplify good behaviors and habits at home. Let them show you all the positive decisions they make!
