Magnet School News
Hello Rosa Parks Families -
This past Friday you received a communication from Rosa Parks that likely left you with many questions and curiosities. So I would like to try to anticipate some of the more immediate questions you have.
What is a magnet or choice school? "Choice" or "magnet" schools have a specialized focus or theme. As theme decisions are made, we will make sure they meet the needs of the students we serve, maximize opportunities available within our community, and align to the goals and vision of Rosa Parks.
Will my child still go to Rosa Parks? Rosa Parks will still serve our neighborhood students first and then as enrollment and capacity allow we will be an option, "choice", for other MAPS families.
What will be different next year? While we are always continuing to reflect and improve our practices from year to year, you will not notice any shifts from how we do school this upcoming school year. We will begin to develop our plan to be ready to execute and implement at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
I know this likely doesn't answer all of the questions that the announcement stirred up but hopefully it gives you some clarifications. We will have plenty more to communicate as we move forward and gain clarity on the specifics of our new direction. It is also important to note that our innovation will align to the school district’s vision of Excellence. Equity. Empowerment. Every Student, Every Day. We are excited to get started and bring this forward to our students and families. What excites me most about this announcement is the opportunities and positive impacts it will have on our students.

TITLE 1 SERVICES AT ROSA PARKS
Rosa Parks is a Schoolwide Title 1 School. In the past, Title 1 funds were available to
provide additional support to students who qualified based on their test scores. As a Schoolwide Title 1 school we are now able to utilize those resources more flexibly to support any students that would benefit. This fits wonderfully with our small group instruction blocks when students receive acceleration or enrichment based on their specific needs. Feel free to contact the school if you have questions.
As a parent, you have the right to request information about the qualifications of your child’s teacher(s). For further information, contact Dan Kamphoff, principal at Rosa Parks Elementary.
