CAST Student Advisory Travels to Mexico Jan. 8-11
This upcoming week, the CAST Student Advisory will be traveling to Monterrey Mexico, along with members of the CAST leadership team, as part of the CAST focus on global leadership. Three ALA students will be going on the trip, which provides these student leaders with the opportunity to participate in a cultural and business/civic experience with the US-Mexico Foundation and immerse themselves in a range of academic, historical, and cultural experiences. Each CAST Network School designates 5 students to participate in the CAST Student Advisory each year. These students meet regularly to provide valuable insight and perspective. We wish our students safe travels and look forward to hearing about the leadership experience they will gain!

Our middle-of-the-year CIRCLE assessment begins this week. Our prek teachers will assess our prek students individually for a few minutes at a time. The middle-of-year assessment will be completed by February 6th and the results will be shared with families.
End of the 2nd 9 Weeks
The end of the second 9 weeks was Thursday, December 19th. Report cards will be sent home by the January 10th and teachers will share a message through Seesaw when they are going home in backpacks so families are aware.

ALA Academic Decathlon Wins 1st Place
Prior to the winter break, nine of our ALA high school students competed in the SAISD Academic Decathlon Tournament. We are proud to share that our students placed 1st in the competition! ALA Senior, Mizael Solis, also placed first overall in the district championship. Thank you to our decathlon coaches, Mr. Lerma & Mr. Ostos, for their support and dedication. Go, Gators!
ALA Senior Recognized
Isis Jimenez, ALA Senior, successfully completed The Coding Schools foundations for quantum computing. Three SAISD students were recognized for outstanding achievement throughout the course of the program. Each of the students received recognition for demonstrating that urban youth can grasp quantum computing concepts through Eastside Quantum Computing Interns and The Coding School. To celebrate, the MIMs Institute recognized Isis with a check presentation & award ceremony on December 19th at the ALA Tech campus. The Coding School, a national nonprofit, offers STEM courses via Zoom to students around the nation and the globe in its quest to reach a million learners by 2030. PhDs from Stanford University deliver weekly lectures and students participate in lab sessions led by assistants from America’s Best Colleges. Google Quantum AI scholarships allow urban youth from underrepresented groups to have access to quantum literacy resources provided through The Coding School. Congratulations to Isis for representing our district and ALA so well!
