Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week, on Friday, September 27, our school is celebrating Orange Shirt Day. Thanks to Mrs. K and Mrs. D for organizing the events. We have a whole school assembly for our students to learn more about Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As part of the day, we are also hosting a special person lunch, Orange Shirt Day Edition. All of our students will be eating lunch in the gym together and we would like to invite any family members who would like to join us to come have lunch.
Our first school council meeting will be held on September 23 at 3:30. Anyone is welcome to attend. We encourage you to join our school council meetings to help shape our school. Your ideas and feedback are valuable in creating the best environment for our children. We hope to see you there!
Thank you to those who were able to join our Terry Fox Run. It was a lovely afternoon spent outside and our students put forward a great effort!
Students in grades 4 - 9 are invited to watch a musical performance by the Edmonton School Boys Alumni Band on Thursday, September 26 at 1:00 PM. This is a great opportunity for our students to watch a performance from a large 60 piece concert band with a wide range of music. Students are given an introduction to different instruments and sections of the band. Students will leave the school at 12:15 and arrive back at 2:45. Permission forms have been sent home with your child.
If you are interested in volunteering in the school, there are many places that would love to have the support which include our hot lunch program, reading volunteers, school council, sports concession, fundraising, and more! If you are interested or just have questions, please feel free to reach out to the office and we can provide you with additional information.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Bailey Benson

Learning in Action
Food Webs
The grade 7s have been learning about the food web and more in-depth about producers, consumers, and decomposers. Students then created their own food web and showed the connections between the different organisms.
Magnets!
The K/1s have been learning and experimenting with magnets. They discussed what a magnet can attract and what it repels. Students had a great time testing them out and seeing if they were strong enough to force two magnets with the same polarity together.
Positive Posters
The 2/3 class had a great idea to help spruce up our student lounge for the junior high students by creating some inspiring posters for them. They did an excellent job of thinking through what kind of positivity they wanted to display for others.
Volleyball
Both the 6/7s and 8/9s have been working on their volleyball skills in P.E. They have played some excellent games against each other with a great deal of support and teamwork on the court!
Terry Fox Writing
The Grade 2/3 students explored the inspiring story of Terry Fox and learned about his foundation. They then applied their knowledge by writing thoughtful opinion pieces about him, focusing on using vivid descriptive language and clearly expressing their ideas.
Knight Awards
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive! ~ Maya Angelou
We are continuing our Knight Awards to help celebrate and acknowledge all of the incredible things our students do everyday. This month, our theme is Thrive! Staff and students can nominate others based on things they see happening around the school. Thrive to us might look like,
- Trust: Building strong, supportive relationships with teachers and peers.
- Hard Work: Embracing challenges with determination and a positive attitude.
- Resilience: Bouncing back from setbacks and learning from mistakes.
- Initiative: Taking ownership of their learning and seeking out opportunities for growth.
- Voice: Feeling empowered to express ideas, ask questions, and contribute to the classroom community.
- Engagement: Actively participating in lessons and activities with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Volunteers
We are grateful for all of the volunteers we have in our school and hope that you continue to volunteer in this year. We have many programs like reading buddies, hot lunch, sports concession, field trips, and more which are able to run because of volunteers!
If you plan to volunteer for more than ten hours over the course of the school year, you will need to ensure you have a criminal record check with vulnerable sector, Forms AP 401 and AP 402 on file at the school. Criminal record checks are good for two years, the forms need to be completed annually. If you are unsure when your record check expires, you can contact the office and we would be happy to let you know. The forms have been attached and are available in the office.
