Welcome to the new school year at TeWinkle! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer. We are excited to kick off the new year with our wonderful students, families, and staff. This year we are celebrating our 60th year of service to the Costa Mesa community We will be highlighting special moment's in the school's history starting with 1964. Did you know that Charles W. TeWinkle Intermediate School was originally 19.97 acres of farmland, until 1963, where both cabbage and lima beans were grown? When TeWinkle Intermediate School opened in September of 1964 there were 320 students, 9 buildings, a cafeteria, and 46 original classrooms. The school is named after Charles W. TeWinkle, the successful owner of TeWinkle Hardware Store and the first Mayor of Costa Mesa when it was officially incorporated as a city in 1953. Today, Charles W. TeWinkle Intermediate School serves approximately 550 students in grades 7 and 8. Last week our students learned about our schoolwide expectations and how to be a great Trojan; in class, during common times (like lunch and nutrition), how to exit and enter campus, and the expectation for students to treat each other and staff members with respect and kindness. Classroom Expectations:
To ensure a successful and positive school year, here are some key expectations:
Attendance: Being on time and present each day is crucial to student success.
Homework: Homework is an essential part of learning. Please help your student stay on top of assignments. We will be offering Schoology support at Back to School Night for those parents who are finding it challenging to log in.
REAP: We emphasize Respect, Empathy, Accountability and Pride for yourself, others, and our school environment.
After-School Activities:
Junior high is a great time to explore new interests! This year, we have a wide range of after-school activities, including sports teams and clubs. Our free after school tutoring called "Genius Hour" Mondays-Thursdays from 2:45-3:45 in our library begins on September 9, 2024. No matter the subject your student needs help with, we will always have highly qualified teachers there to provide support and assistance. Fall sports held tryouts and the boy's volleyball and girl's basketball teams are all set to compete in their first games against similar teams across the community.

¡Bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar en TeWinkle! Esperamos que todos hayan tenido un verano relajante y agradable. Estamos emocionados de comenzar el nuevo año con nuestros maravillosos estudiantes, familias y personal. Este año estamos celebrando nuestro 60° aniversario de servicio a la comunidad de Costa Mesa. Resaltaremos momentos especiales en la historia de la escuela, comenzando en 1964. ¿Sabían que la Escuela Intermedia Charles W. TeWinkle Middle School
During Middle School, we recognize that students are developing individually, intellectually, and are creating their own independent beliefs. We foster an environment where we empower our students by recognizing their diverse needs and individual strengths and use that knowledge to build lifelong learners. As a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) School, we offer an array of classes that are innovative and rigorous and focus on a STEAM initiative. In addition to PLTW, students can also be participants of music, AVID, Publications or ASB, giving all students an opportunity to become involved in areas of their own personal interest. In the classroom, our students will be engaged in 21st-century learning. We promote peer to peer engagement, high levels of critical thinking, culturally relevant instruction, and students will be challenged to think outside of the box. Our goal is to prepare students for high school and build a culture where we nurture our educational partners desires as it relates to college and career. Every student matters and we believe that every dream can be their reality.

Como escuela del Proyecto Lead the Way (PLTW), ofrecemos una variedad de clases que son innovadoras y rigurosas y se enfocan en una iniciativa STEAM. Además de PLTW, los estudiantes también pueden ser participantes de música, AVID, Publicaciones o ASB, lo que brinda a todos los estudiantes la oportunidad de involucrarse en áreas de su propio interés personal.
