Dear District 70 Families:
Welcome to the inaugural Safety Week for D70 Schools! The goal of this week is to raise awareness about school safety among our students, parents, staff, and community members. In addition to the safety drills happening at each of our schools this week, students will view short videos that have a "Safety Tip of the Day." Each tip corresponds with a safety theme for that day of the week.
The topics for each day include:
- Monday, Sept. 16: Welcome to Safety Week
- Tuesday, Sept. 17: Weather Emergencies
- Wednesday, Sept. 18: Law Enforcement Drill (Run, Hide, Defend)
- Thursday, Sept. 19: School Evacuations (Fire drill)
- Friday, Sept. 20: Transportation Safety (Railroad, Crosswalk, and Bicycle Safety)
Beginning tonight, we will send out a safety tip video for each day. We are intentionally sharing the videos the night before they are viewed by students in school so that parents can have conversations with their child(ren) about safety and what to do in an emergency situation.
As a reminder, D70 Schools use this list of common terminology to describe various emergency situations that may occur in our school buildings. This list has been developed in collaboration with local law enforcement. The terminology is used when providing updates to parents/guardians, staff, and students during an emergency situation.
