Our staff has been eagerly preparing for a fantastic term filled with engaging lessons, creative projects, and fun activities. This is a great time for students to set goals, explore their interests, and continue to grow academically and socially.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making this school year a success.
Letโs make this semester an amazing one!

What's Happening in Classrooms this Month
Science Class ๐ญ๐งช๐ฌ
Kreeger students are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
We really enjoy learning together, sharing our ideas, and thinking as scientists! There is SO MUCH to think about, wonder at, and explore! We are actively engaged in our work and love to celebrate this. As their teacher, I watch for ways to recognize students for their contributions and connections, and give them opportunities to wear our fun science gear, display a placket on their locker or fridge at home, and to choose a โscience-yโ treat, too. Third graders are enjoying adding their names to the โWall of Fameโ as they join the Kreegerland science community!
Always an adventure! - Ms. Gill ๐
Social Studies Class ๐๐๐
In Social Studies, the third graders are learning about the history of the Three Fires Tribes of Michigan, and indigenous people of Michigan. We will be acting out what we learn, right in the classroom!
The fourth graders are learning about the Toledo War, and the final steps of Michigan becoming a state. After we research, we'll be acting out the sequence of events between Michigan and Ohio!
Finally, the Fifth Graders have been studying key concepts of the free market economy. We'll be learning the economic consequences of exploration of the New World.
Ms. Johnson
Art Class ๐จ๐งน
All classes have been learning about the Elements of Art so that we have a common understanding.
3rd Graders are learning to mix secondary colors, tints, and shades, and are doing a painting of vases to show their skills.
4th Graders have studied the work of Canadian artist, Matthew Wong, and are drawing interiors similar to his, focusing on pattern and space.
5th Graders are studying 1 pt. perspective and are creating colored pencil drawings to practice this illusion of space.

P.E. Class โฝ๐๐ฅ
In PE class, students are working on finishing up their open hand striking unit with two games; SWAT Ball and Gaga Ball. In December, we will start our floor hockey unit that will focus on striking with a long handled implement and teamwork.

Music Class ๐ต๐น
Students in music class have been working on rhythm reading with our Rhythm of the Week activity. Students are asked to perform the rhythm in a variety of ways and are invited to share ideas related to the rhythm. This year, classes are learning about a different "Artist of the Month" and have been studying the musical lives of Freddy Mercury, Julie Andrews, Bruno Mars, and John Philip Sousa.
In 3rd grade, students are learning about dynamics and how to apply them to the music they perform. 4th graders recently started recorder playing and are working to improve their B and A notes, and 5th graders have been playing a Holiday Rhythm Football game.

Third Grade Classrooms:
In third grade, students will be working on a variety of important skills. In reading, they'll focus on finding the main idea and supporting details in a story, as well as identifying the author's point of view. In math, they'll learn to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, and practice addition and subtraction with regrouping. For writing, students will focus on writing to inform, where they will practice sharing facts and information clearly and logically.
Fourth Grade Classrooms:
The month of December was a busy time in 4th grade! Besides holiday crafts, parties, and planning we did manage to squeeze quite a bit of learning in as well. In Math, most classes worked to finish Unit 2 or 3 before break. This means we were studying multiplication, division and fractions. Our reading plans revolved around Unit 1 with summarizing, theme, inferencing and characterization. Many teachers have begun Unit 2 with the focus on non-fiction texts. Finally, our students finished some amazing opinion writing texts as they explored the advantages and disadvantages of using coal to power and heat our homes.
Fifth Grade Classrooms:
As fifth-grade ventures into 2025, we are starting new math, reading, and writing units. Math unit 3 is focusing on decimals. Students will read, write, order, model, and compare decimal numbers in this unit. We will multiply and divide whole and decimal numbers by 10. Add and subtract decimal numbers to the hundredths place. Identify equivalent fractions and decimals. Finally, divide multi-digit whole numbers. Unit 2 in reading will involve the theme, Art in America. Students will read and discuss periods such as the Harlem Renaissance, the Dust Bowl, Public Works of Art, and Forgotten Art. Finally, in writing, we are starting to write narratives, specifically legends. Students will create their legends after looking at examples of the genre and practicing the specific aspects of this writing. We will revise and edit a final attempt at legend writing. We will soon send home letters regarding our 5th-grade field trip to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
