PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Please join me in congratulating Lackey High School’s very own, Spanish teacher, Mr. Joshua Clark. Tonight, at a very special gala, Mr. Clark, Charles County Public Schools Teacher of the Year will be celebrated with 22 of his colleagues from counties throughout the State of Maryland. The State Board of Education will announce, the Maryland Teacher of the Year at tonight’s gala. We are proud to have Mr. Clark represent Charles County and Henry E. Lackey High School. Good luck, Mr. Clark! The outcome tonight makes no difference to us! You are OUR Teacher of the Year!!!
We want to acknowledge the work of the SGA, classes, student participants and of course our victorious football team. Last week’s Spirit Week and homecoming activities were amazing. This year, class floats returned to the homecoming celebrations. Unfortunately, the rain forced the floats inside. Each of the classes worked hard on their displays. The floats became an integral part of our homecoming dance. Thank you everyone for an amazing week.
NATIONAL PRINCIPAL'S MONTH
Happy National Principal's Month Ms. Davis!
We thank you for your leadership, guidance, support, and dedication! Thank you for all that you do!
The students and staff at Henry E. Lackey High School appreciate you!!
Happy National Principal's Month!

Message from our School Psychologist
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Unity Day is celebrated the 3rd Wednesday in October. Unity Day reinforces the bullying prevention theme by emphasizing that bullying is not acceptable and that everyone deserves to feel safe in their school and in their community. Here at Henry E. Lackey High School, we plan to celebrate Unity Day schoolwide. The events have been planned by our wonderful school Peer Mediators. Some of you may remember that last year we trained a group of students to help us solve conflicts in our school. These students received extensive training and are dedicated to promoting peace and civil conflict resolution in our school. Unity Day celebrations are a chance for them to prevent conflicts before they start.
We are sharing information with you about our plans for this celebration in the hopes that you will encourage your child to actively participate. Here are the activities we have planned to promote unity in our school:
- Wednesday, October 9th: Unity celebrations opens with Twin Day. We are asking students to dress as a twin with another student. We want them to take a picture and share this with our yearbook staff to highlight the event.
- Thursday, October 10th: We are asking students to complete a feather with a positive message of unity to create a Bird of Peace for all of us to enjoy.
- Friday, October 11th: Students will have the opportunity to make Friendship Bracelets to share with each other.
- Tuesday, October 15th: Students will have the opportunity to send a friend or staff member a Candy Gram with a positive message of support.
- Wednesday, October 16th: We will encourage all students to wear orange. Our peer mediators will hand out kindness cards to random students.
Each day leading up to Unity Day, we plan announcements: with positive quotes along with the reminders of the spirit week activities.
As parents, you are the most influential person in your child’s life. Encourage them to participate in Unity Day events. Also encourage them to use the peer mediation and adult intervention to help resolve conflicts peacefully. We offer peer mediation, as well as having adults in the building that are trained in restorative practices. In your home, model good conflict resolution skills by discussing issues calmly, using “I” statements about needs, and compromising when possible. If your child is involved in bullying, either as the victim or the bully, you can also be helpful. Listen carefully to issues your child is presenting, hopefully in a calm and rational state. Find out what the school staff knows about the situation. Be clear with your child about what your expectations are for appropriate behaviors and monitor whether their behavior is appropriate. Hold your child accountable for inappropriate behavior with reasonable and consistent consequences. Build in time with your child to build on their strengths and to encourage them to engage in appropriate behavior. Remember that there are resources for mediation in the community at the College of Southern Maryland as well (see link below) if you are having issues in your immediate community or neighborhood.
