Low Ash Primary
Autumn term round up - 20.12.24
Autumn half term 2 - week 7
The end of term is upon us and I know all of the children are ready for a break. A reminder that we return to school on Monday 6th January for the spring term. We hope you all have a lovely, restful break with friends and family.
Reception and KS1 Golden Learners
Key Stage 2 Golden Learners
'Well done' to the Golden Learners for this half-term (pictured above). Despite it being the last week of term, they have 'dug deep' and continued to work really hard.
Kindness Award winners
Well done to all of the nominees and winners. Here are some quotes from the class teachers.
'For his constantly kind manner and talking to his friends with respect. They have a smile that lights up our classroom every day and is a superb example to his friends.'
'She is kind and considerate to everyone in class. Through our discussions in class, she understands others' points of view and accepts differences in us all.'
Attendance
This week's school attendance is 92.4%.
Whole school attendance so far this year is 95.3%
Early Years/Key Stage 1 class of the week is 2M with 92.1% attendance.
Key Stage 2 class of the week is 3B with 98.3% attendance.
Once more, here is the link to the attendance page of the school website which has information on the Penalty Notice system. Ultimately, more than 2 penalty notices could result in the council taking you to court and a criminal record. We really do not want any of our families to have to go through this.
Santa Comes to Town!
We were very lucky that Santa took some time out of his busy schedule today and made a visit to Low Ash. Each class had the chance to visit Santa in his special grotto based in the school yurt, where he read a story to pupils and then gave them each a gift. A huge thank you to the 'elves' and snowman who helped on the day and also to the 'behind the scene' elves who sprinkled their magic on the yurt to change it into the magical grotto it was.
Present donations
School has received a number of present donations from the Shipley Rotary Club and West Yorkshire Children's Charity. The presents are really appreciated by the families who received them. We hope it helps to bring just a little bit of Christmas magic.
Carols by Candlelight
Last night was the annual Carols by Candlelight held at St. Cuthbert's Church. Songs were sung by the choir and by year groups 3 - 6. In the absence of our music leader who is currently on maternity leave, this year's service was a real team effort. Thanks to all of the children for their wonderful singing and to the Year 6 readers. Thanks also to all who came and supported the event.
EYFS Sing song and Craft session
Thank you to all parents and carers who came to support at the EYFS 'sing song' and craft session. The children seemed to be having lots of fun whether it be making a marshmallow snowman or sparkly reindeer food. We hope you enjoyed it too!
World War Two Commemoration
This week, two of our pupils attended a commemoration for people who lost their lives in the bombardment of Hartlepool in World War Two. Maisie and Phoebe are descendants of the youngest victim of this bombardment. Please click on the links below which will take you to Look North (North East and Cumbria) where Maisie is interviewed and also to an online news article.

Rocksteady concert
A number of our budding rockstars took part in a concert on Tuesday afternoon. They were amazing! All of these pupils take part in 'Rocksteady' music sessions each week. Their hard work has definitely paid off.
Year 5 Victorian Christmas
Our Year 5 pupils enjoyed their Victorian Christmas held at St. Cuthbert's Church this week. Their History learning has centered around the Industrial Revolution this term and celebrating 'Victorian style' was a fitting end to the unit of work!
Jamie's Farm
Last week saw the end of the 6 week programme some of our pupils have been taking part in at Jamie's Farm on the outskirts of Skipton. Throughout the programme, pupils had the opportunity to work on a real working farm. They helped to re-house pigs, feed the animals, catch chickens, cook home cooked meals and many other things! We are very proud of all those who took part - they showed real determination and resilience facing tasks they had never done before.
Academic Success
We like to think we offer so much more than the academic side of things at Low Ash, but we are very pleased to be joint 6th in the Bradford Primary School league tables this year (out of 180 primary schools). The league tables are based on the % of Year 6 pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined. (The SATS were taken in May this year with these pupils now being in Year 7). This year 82% of the 6 pupils achieved this standard (the National average being 61%). Well done to all.
Social media tips
All that is left for us to say is have a lovely Christmas with friends and family and we will see you for the start of the spring term on January 6th 2025.
