Message from the Principal
Dear BEC Families,
We hope this message finds you and your families safe and warm during this unusual weather event. We understand this has been a challenging time, and we are thinking of you all.
We are truly looking forward to welcoming our students back to school as soon as it is safe to do so. The school building feels unusually quiet without their energy and laughter!
In the coming days and weeks, we will be sharing more information about upcoming events:
- Early Childhood Enrollment: Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year in our Early Childhood program will begin in February. We will soon be sharing specific dates, procedures, and any necessary forms.
- Special Education Services:
- For current students, we will be scheduling Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to discuss Extended School Year (ESY) services, if applicable.
- For students transitioning to Kindergarten, we will be reviewing IEP goals and discussing the transition process.
It's hard to believe that we are already in the second half of the school year! We appreciate your continued partnership and support.

Recycling Lids for a Picnic Table
We are so excited to announce that we have partnered with the GREEN TREE PLASTIC
COMPANY to save our planet and help reduce our carbon footprint. We are collecting plastic lids of 8 inches or less to help us reach our goal of 550 lbs of plastic lids/pill bottles to make an ADA accessible picnic bench for our beautiful new playground area.
We would love your help in making this mission possible. I have attached a slideshow of what
lids/pill bottles are acceptable for us to collect. If you would like to participate please send in
your CLEAN lids and EMPTY, WASHED, AND STICKER FREE pill bottles to add to our already growing collection here at Barfield.
We have collected 230 lbs of lids and pill bottles since April 2023. Way to go! We are looking for plastic recycle numbers 2, 4, 5 and free of all paper! Below is a picture of the bench we are working towards purchasing.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to ShelbyCohen@wsdr4.org. I look forward to seeing everyone’s CLEAN lids/ pill bottles, so we can help make the world a much cleaner place!
