Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Students of Susan Nelson High School!
Welcome to the new school year! We're off to a good start!
Thanks for coming in for orientations, meeting with your supervising teacher, getting your device and getting the year started right!
I'd also like to personally THANK YOU for your patience as we worked to "GO DIGITAL" with our Master Agreements!!! The new DocuSign program has its quirks, but as we get used to it, I think (in the end) it will save everybody a lot of time. At least that's the goal! (You know how it goes with TECHNOLOGY!) At any rate, one of the things we want to work on is being able to have DocuSign work on your mobile device! That would make the whole process easier!!!
Some Advice for Students As We Start the New School Year
Students, as you get started, here are some things that you can do to set yourself up for success:
Earn at least 90% attendance
In independent study, your completed assignments equal attendance. Meeting assignment deadlines means you're earning attendance credits. If you are not meeting your attendance requirement, that means you are falling behind in your courses and are at risk of failing them. That is why it is critical for students to work on their classes everyday and follow their course calendars. For this first attendance month (August 14-September 6), there are 17 attendance days, so you need to earn at least 15. But Let's aim for 100% attendance! Also, if you don't meet your attendance goals we'll (eventually) need to have a meeting with you, your teacher and your parents to figure out how you can be successful. Staying enrolled at Susan Nelson requires students to complete work at the required rate--so always keep moving forward with your assignments!
Additionally, students please think about the following:
#1--Create a schedule and follow it. Set-up specific blocks of time for school work, assignments, and breaks.
#2--Prioritize tasks - Make school a priority and follow your course schedules.
#3--Attend your weekly appointments and let your teacher know if you need help in a class.
#4--Get academic help when you need it. Go to the California State Library Brainfuse webpage for 24/7 live online tutoring OR for in-person tutoring, visit the Ronald H. Roberts Public Library off Pauba Rd. Click on the link for the tutoring schedule.
It's going to be a great year!!!
Always feel free to reach out to our teachers or to me if you have questions or concerns!!
Sincerely,
David Schlottman
Principal

Coffee with the Principals
Coffee with the Principals:
Thursday, September 19, 2024
9:00 - 10:00 am & 6:30 - 7:30 pm (choose one that works for you!)
These will be very informal meetings and are only meant to meet you in person and say, “Hi!” and talk for a few minutes. You can stay as long (or as little) as you like! : ) If you have questions, concerns, comments or advice, feel free to come by and visit us. We're looking forward to meeting you!
Student Parking
As you probably have realized, our parking lot off of Pio Pico Road that serves as the entry point to the main office, is very small! It needs to accommodate teachers from the three schools at Sparkman (the Adult School, Susan Nelson, and Rancho Vista)--and of course, we want our parents
and visitors to have a spot, too! After that...there is NO MORE SPACE!
Students: please know that this main parking lot is not a place where you can park...I understand that's is super convenient...but we need the spots for staff, parents and visitors.
There is a student parking lot (as you can see in the picture below). There's plenty of space there...and I realize that you have to walk a bit to get to the front of the school! But there is parking!!!
As with all of our high schools in TVUSD, if you'd like to park in the student parking lot of off Margarita Road, you'll need a SHNS Parking Permit. The permit costs $15 (cash or check only).
Please click this link, print out the parking permit, sign it, and return it to Gloria Dixon with the $15 fee.
