Halloween has certainly turned into a nightmare! This is a reminder that nasty weather, in the form of white flakes, is quickly approaching. Please make sure your athletes are prepared for the weather. Many times we see athletes leaving the school in their practice gear (shorts and a t-shirt). We want all of our students to remain healthy and aware of the dangers the cold weather can present. We hope to see you all out at our home winter events. Please continue to check the 8to18 website for up to date schedules as well as cancellations.

The Hornets finished the regular season with a record of 4-5. Finishing with a big win over Hoopeston Areas School 40-0 on October 26, 2019. Thank you to seniors, Kadin Busse, Jonathan Estrada, Martin Kelly, Martin Lopez, Damyan Michel, Damon Mueller, Anthony Palella, Eric Parra, Ulises Rangel, Antonio Rodriguez, Victor Soto, and Marco Vazquez.

Thank you to all of the cheerleaders for their dedication and hard work to cheer loud and proud for our Hornets. Special thanks to the seniors, Monica Alvarez, Anjolina Carpenter, Courtnee Guerra, Dinah Harter, Milagros Sanchez, Marlene Soto, and Ariel Torres.

The boys golf season ended with a record of 2-8. The highlight of the year was the win over Johnsburg on senior night. Thank you seniors, James Crout, Hunter Gratz, Saul Osorio, Javan Rodgers, and Joseph Wright.

The girls golf team finished the season with a record of 10-1. They won the Kishwaukee River Conference Tournament Championship on October 1, 2019 at Blackstone Golf Course. A special thanks to our senior, Jennah Brookner, for four years of hard work and dedication.

The varsity boys soccer team finished the season 8-11-1. The season ended on October 18 with a loss of 3-2 in PK to Woodstock North in the IHSA Class 2A regional tournament. Thank you seniors, Brian Albarran, Leonardo Flores, Michael Hernandez-Mercado, Miguel Juarez, Giovanni Reising, Daniel Sanchez, and Samuel Sanchez. We also want to give Coach McCloud a special thank you for many years of dedication and hardwork to the boys soccer program.

The varsity boys and girls cross country team competed in the IHSA Class 2A Regional meet at Lakes High School October 26. Steven Austin finished 19th and qualified for the IHSA Class 2A Sectional Meet. Steven will compete for sectionals on Saturday, November 2, at Belvidere High School.

Thank you to the two senior boys, JJ Lich and Levi Austin for a great season.

The girls volleyball team finished with a record of 3-32. They lost to Rockford Boylan in the IHSA Class 3A Regional Tournament on October 28. Thank you to seniors, Cassandra Bailey, Desiree Brady, Catherine Hannon, Aylia Lemus, Dianayeli Plata, Bianca Reyes, and Hannah Saucedo for all their dedication and hard work.

Jennah shot Harvard's lowest score against Belvidere. She led and earned a medal with 12th place finish at the McHenry Country Invite. She was also a medalist in the win against Stillman Valley.

Tony rushed for 160 yards on 31 carries with the game winning TD through sloppy conditions in the win over Woodstock North on Saturday September 28. On defense Tony recorded 5 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.

Julia led the Hornets to first ever undefeated conference dual record with lowest individual score in final three matches. She finished 2nd in conference tournament to lead the team to first ever conference golf championship.

Aldo is the goalkeeper for the boys soccer team. He has made many saves that have kept the team in close games.

Steven placed 11th at the Kishwaukee River Conference Meet on October 19, 2019. He earned All-KRC honors.

Asha led the program in kills (8) and aces (3) on a victory against North Boone.

By the time you are thirsty and chugging down the water or sports drinks, it is already too late. You are already partially dehydrated. A properly hydrated athlete should be replacing fluids lost from exercise not attempting to hydrate themselves. Once cramping occurs it is only a matter of time before you will have to stop competing and rest and prepare for the next practice or competition. Winter temperatures can decrease the desire for fluid intake but it is just as important to hydrate. Some tips for hydrating if you aren't looking for a cold drink can include room temperature water or warm non-caffeinated drinks such as herbal teas or even hot cocoa. Be careful with coffee drinks as they can stimulate the nervous system (not your muscles) while also dehydrating your body.

Get in free to all home games throughout the entire school year when you show your Hornet Fan Pass card (Adults, $30 each). Passes are available at the high school athletic office.
