February is Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions made by Black heroes throughout history. In recent years, it’s also become a time to strengthen allegiance and support with marginalized communities. Each of the school buildings in Brighton will be celebrating learning together with a variety of presentations, literature, and/or activities.
Our families and community can join in, too! Celebrate Black History Month with Smithsonian events, resources, exhibitions, and podcasts. The 2025 theme for Smithsonian is "African Americans and Labor" with a focus on the various and profound ways that work of all kinds intersects with the collective experiences of Black people.
Additionally, there are many local celebrations for both adults and children including some listed below:
· Celebrating Black History – City of Rochester
· Memorial Art Gallery - Black History Month
· Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library
Resources to learn more about Black History Month
· National Geographic for Kids
· National Museum of African American History and Culture

BHS Rowers Recognized
Two BHS Rowers Earned a Spot on the USRowing 2025 Scholastic Honor Roll

for being among the students who were selected for this honor. Both Maya and Ella also competed in the USRowing Youth National Championships in Florida last spring.
Two BHS Rowers Earn Regional and National Success in Pittsburgh
It’s hard to keep your rowing chops honed in the winter when you live in a climate like Rochester. But 2 BHS sophomores from The Brighton Rowing Club found their way to the Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championship on February 1st. Noah Biedenkopf and Grace Quarles competed in the men’s under 17 and women’s under 19 events, respectively. After racing a grueling 2,000 meters, Noah placed 4th and Grace 3rd. The Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championships was also a host site for the US Rowing Indoor National Championships.
Because of this, Noah is now ranked 23rd nationally in the men’s U17 event and Grace is ranked 12th nationally in the women’s U19 event. Congratulations to both on your dedication and achievements!
