The Panther Post
August 2024 Monthly Newsletter
Dear Pleasant Hill Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. I hope you all are having a relaxing, safe, and enjoyable summer. We have been very busy here at the school completing projects to both prepare the learning environment and make plans to welcome our staff and students back on August 7. Our big project this summer was the roof replacement. We are thankful we can continue to provide our staff and students with a clean, up-to-date, and welcoming facility in which they can engage in meaningful learning experiences.
I want to take this opportunity to personally welcome a new team member, Mrs. Kimberly Priller. Mrs. Priller will serve as the new Principal here at Pleasant Hill. She comes with previous administrative experience both at the elementary and high school levels, along with a wealth of knowledge, in particular in the areas of curriculum (Mathematics) and assessment. I am really looking forward to having Mrs. Priller on my administrative team and working together collaboratively to make a difference in the lives of students at Pleasant Hill.
In May, we launched a brand new app and website for our district-Apptegy. The new app is a great way for you to catch up with the latest student stories, news updates, review lunch menus and get notifications. You can even access documents and events. It's everything Pleasant Hill, in your pocket. If you haven't already, download the app!

You can still find us on the web at www.phill69.com. the Pleasant Hill Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/phillpanthers, the Pleasant Hill Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/phillpanthers as well as the Pleasant Hill Twitter handle https://twitter.com/PHillPanthers. These social media platforms are a great way for you to follow our educational story. We will be utilizing Apptegy as our automated broadcast system to send out text messages, emails, and phone calls regarding important events at the school. During the school year, students will continue to bring home bi-weekly notices and families will have access to an electronic newsletter, which will share with you lunch menus and other information.
Once again, I want to welcome all of our families and students here at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. This year we will have a MEET THE TEACHER DAY, which will be held on TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, from 1:00-3:00 PM. I look forward to seeing all of our families at school during that time where you can meet the staff, visit your child’s classroom, drop off their supplies and/or get their supplies organized (which will be here, provided compliments of City on a Hill Church, if you requested them during registration). Our first day of school will be Wednesday, August 7. On the first day of school, buses WILL BE AVAILABLE to pick students up in the morning, but families are welcome to drop their children off if they choose. School will be dismissed at 1:30 PM and buses will transport students home in the afternoon on August 7!
Yours In Education,
Dr. Lisa Weaver
Superintendent

Reminders
- Attendance is SO very important to our students' education. It is their number one job to be at school every day. Please work with us to make sure that students are here at school on time each and every day so they can get the best possible education.
- School will be dismissed at 1:30 EACH & EVERY WEDNESDAY this school year. This will be for school improvement purposes so staff members can engage in professional development and improve instructional practices in the classroom! Please make a note of this on your calendars!
- Just a reminder of our school hours. The doors open at 7:45 AM and students will be dismissed at 2:40 PM. Upon arrival, students will head directly to the cafeteria, where they will eat breakfast. Students should NOT arrive before 7:45 AM as there is no supervision before that time.
- We will continue to contract out and work with Illinois Central bus company again this year. Throughout the year, we will continue to have ONE load for each of our buses. All buses will arrive at 7:45 AM and depart at 2:40 PM. Walker/car riders will be dismissed at 2:45 PM after the buses leave. Please remember if you are picking up your child that you must remain in your car, follow the line, and Ms. Phillips or Mrs. Griffin will bring your child out to you. If you have any issues with the bus drivers or the bus company in general, you can call Illinois Central directly at 309-280-6370 to work at getting your issue resolved.
- If there is a change in dismissal for your child, the school office must receive a note by 9:00 AM stating those changes (i.e. If your child is riding the bus home with a friend, you and the parent of the friend will need to write a note stating that change and have your child turn it into the office first thing in the morning). We work hard to keep dismissal procedures consistent for the safety of all students. Therefore, changes should be kept to a minimum. Daily changes to dismissal procedures will NOT be accepted through phone calls, only through hand-written notes.
- If your child is absent from school, it is very important that you call the school to report the absence. You can either call Mrs. Dimmitt at 309-637-6829 or you can send her an email at sdimmitt@phill69.com to report an absence.
- ALL students will need a pair of non-marking gym shoes that they can leave at school for use during physical education classes. This is essential with the upkeep of our recent gymnasium floor replacement.
Notes from the Nurse
School nursing is my passion and I am committed to doing my best to ensure the health and safety of your student (s)! Here are some highlights of my focus as we begin our year:
Physicals and Immunizations: Thank you to parents/guardians of our Pre-K, Kindergarten and 6th grade students for getting your student ready for school and turning their physicals and immunizations in. If you are new and just starting at Pleasant Hill, you have 30 days to get them in.
Dental Exams: All Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade students MUST have a dental exam. Please schedule these appointments as soon as possible and turn in the exam form when complete. Also, remember to have your students brush their teeth every morning and before bed every night!
Eye exams: All Kindergarten students MUST have a vision exam. Please schedule these appointments as soon as possible and turn in the exam form when complete. It is very important to get these exams done early so we know if your student is having any vision problems that can impact learning.
Please feel free to call me at 637-6829 or email me at nurse@phill69.com.
