The Falcon Express
FEBRUARY 2025

MESSAGE FROM HICKMAN
Falcon families,
Count day is the one day of the school year that means everything to schools in terms of the amount of funding they receive. For every student that can be accounted for on this special day, funds are allotted for our school. Therefore, please send your scholar to school on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Let's make this day count!!!!! Please allow your scholar to wear their pajamas on February 12, 2025.
If by chance your scholar will be absent on Wednesday , February 12th. It is imperative that you contact the office at (248) 746-8840 to excuse your scholar's absence. Also, follow up with a written letter or email as proof of absence for our records.
We value your partnership,
Principal Hickman
WHAT'S GOING AROUND
Stakeholders,
We have had a significant number of scholars out sick with the Influenza A and/or Viral Gastroenteritis (Stomach Flu) this week. In order to help prevent the spread of illness, we kindly ask that if your child is showing any symptoms of the flu (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, etc.), please keep them home to rest and recover.
We want to ensure the health and safety of all our scholars and staff, and your cooperation in keeping sick children at home will help us minimize the spread of illness.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We hope everyone feels better soon and look forward to welcoming your scholar back to school when they’re feeling well.
If your scholar is absent due to Influenza A or Stomach Flu, please inform the office as soon as possible, as it is a reportable illness. This will give us the chance to thoroughly clean the affected classrooms.
SOCIAL NAVIGATION SERVICES
Our Social Navigator, Mrs. Trowell helps individuals and families access the resources and support they need to improve their well-being. Social Navigators work within the framework of the United Way, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the common good by supporting health, education, and financial stability for everyone.
The role of a Social Navigator involves:
Connecting people to resources: They help clients navigate complex systems, such as healthcare, housing, and financial assistance programs.
Providing guidance: Social Navigators offer personalized advice on available community resources, including emergency assistance, food programs, childcare support, and more.
Building relationships: They often work closely with individuals or families, building trust and supporting them through challenges, while guiding them toward long-term solutions.
The ultimate goal is to improve people's lives and remove barriers they may face in accessing critical services. If you are in need of any services, please contact our Community Coordinator, Mrs. Land and she will initiate a referral for you.

PTA CORNER
Families,
As we continue to strive for a positive and supportive learning environment for our students, we want to extend an invitation to you to become a part of something special—the Falcon Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
The PTA plays a vital role in enhancing the educational experience for all students by fostering communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and school administration. Through your involvement, you can make a direct impact on the programs, events, and initiatives that benefit our students and enrich their time at school.
By joining the PTA, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Support your child’s education by contributing to decisions that affect their learning environment.
- Build a sense of community by connecting with other parents, teachers, and staff.
- Participate in school events and activities that help create lasting memories for students.
- Advocate for important educational issues within the school.
Your time, no matter how much you can commit, makes a significant difference. Whether you're able to attend meetings, volunteer at events, or assist with fundraising efforts, every bit of support counts.
We invite you to join us and share your ideas, energy, and passion for our school community. If you're interested in learning more about how you can get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out to PTA President Sonya Jackson at falconspta24@gmail.com. The cost to join the PTA is $12 for individual or $25 for family. Applications are in the main office and payment can be rendered via Cash App ($falconspta24).
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. We look forward to seeing you at our next Virtual PTA meeting on February 12, 2025.
Mark your calendars for upcoming PTA events:
Change Campaign (starting 2/4/25) and Hump Day Hustle (3/5/25)
Warm regards,
Ms. Sonya Jackson
