Honoring Black History
Schools and classrooms across Trussville City Schools find various ways throughout the year to study and celebrate African American History - particularly during the month of February, which is designated in the United States as Black History Month.
Discover Black History Month educational resources from various organizations including National Geographic Kids, Department of Defense EA, and the U.S. Department of Education.
In this edition of In the Loop, we explore a Black History Class Quilt project at Paine Elementary School. The 1st Grade Team collaborated on a student project whereby students chose world-changing African Americans, weaving biographical details of the figures into the students' art projects.

David Dobbs: 2020 Ned & Goldie Paine Gatekeeper of the Year
Longtime Hewitt-Trussville High School Cross Country/Track Coach David Dobbs has been named the 2020 Ned & Goldie Paine Gatekeeper of the Year by the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dobbs, who led student athletes for 30 years, still serves as an assistant coach for HTHS. He was nominated for this prestigious civic award by TCS Athletics Director Lance Walker.
The Trussville Public Library took home the Group Winner award this year.
The award's namesake, Ned and Goldie Paine, were well-known Trussville residents. The award began in 1966 and is given annually to one individual and one organization for outstanding civic service to Trussville.
ALERT: Vehicles Passing School Buses
Parents/Employees: Please share with your neighbors and friends who might not see our posts. This is a REMINDER about vehicles running past a flashing red stop sign on the side of school buses - buses that may be loading or unloading children. When this occurs, the Trussville Police Department is notified and a ticket is mailed to the vehicle’s owner. Please be aware that when a bus begins flashing yellow and then flashes red, there are either students on the ground waiting to load or will soon be on the ground unloading. Saving a few minutes by not stopping is simply not worth the risk of hurting a child. Please stop for our students!

2021 Valentine's Auction Raises Thousands for Charity
The highly-anticipated annual Valentine’s Auction at Hewitt-Trussville High School once again proved highly successful - raising nearly $8,500.00 for charity.
The event, held February 12, raised money through a bid process that results in school-based “dates” held during Husky Hour. The bid process generates money for operating expenses and charities, with the 2021 charitable beneficiaries being Dancers Against Cancer and The WellHouse.
The gymnasium serves as the Valentine’s Auction date-site, with food prepared by the school’s Culinary Arts Academy. See more photos.
