From the desk of Principal, Dr. Roche:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we conclude the school year, I would like to express my gratitude for your ongoing partnership. Your support, encouragement, and trust in us to care for and educate your children mean more than words can express. It is a privilege to work with your students and to be part of their journey.
We wish you and your family a restful, joyful summer. Whether you're traveling, working, or simply taking time to recharge, we hope the months ahead bring you peace and connection.
Looking ahead, the first day of school for the 2025–26 school year is Wednesday, August 27. Student schedules will be available shortly before school begins, and we’ll share more information in late summer to help you prepare.
Thank you again for being part of the Bulldog community. We’re grateful for all we’ve accomplished together this year—and we’re excited for what’s to come.
Go Bulldogs!

MVHS Teacher Preparation Program for High School Students
MVHS Teacher Preparation Program for High School Students
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the field of education, Careers in Education is the place for you! This is more than a class - it is a supportive program within a class that helps students learn why to pursue a career in education and how to do it! This is a "grow your own" teacher preparation program offered to grades 10-12 who are interested in a career in the field of education. Students will have the chance to be placed in an internship with elementary or middle school teachers and will work cooperatively in their mentor teachers' classrooms during our class time to assist younger students with their education. Students will also have the chance to take the Paraprofessional Exam, which combined with being 18 years of age and graduating high school will make them hireable as a Paraeducator in Washington State Schools. Hands-on college advising and support is provided throughout the pathway, with additional guidance from our Maestros Para el Pueblo advisors from Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University. Sign up for Careers in Education during registration. If you already signed up for classes and would like to make a schedule to change to add this, talk to Mr. Hand and your counselor. See or email Mr. Hand for more information. rhand@mvsd320.org

Canvas
https://www.mountvernonschools.org/node/995
What is Canvas
We are excited to have deployed Canvas to secondary students as our new learning management system. Canvas will act as a central location for communication, coursework, assignments, and grades. As a parent, you play an essential role in your student’s education, and Canvas will provide you with the ability to stay informed and engaged in their learning.
How to get Connected
- You will receive an email titled “Finish Registration: Canvas” from Canvas at the email address registered in Skyward. Please check your spam/junk folder if you do not see the email.
- The email will provide you with steps to get logged in with your new Canvas Parent account.
- If you do not receive the communication, your email in Skyward may need to be updated. Please reach out to your student’s school front office, and they will assist you in updating your information.
Alternative Pathway to get Connected
If you are unable to access your Canvas parent account through the email invitation, you can create an account using a pairing code provided by your student.
To Create an Account Using a Pairing Code:
- Have your student log into Canvas.
- Click on Account > Settings.
- Select “Pair with Observer” to generate a unique code.
- Use the code to create a parent account by visiting https://mvsd.instructure.com/login/canvas and selecting “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account.”
Already Using Canvas?
If you’re already set up with Canvas in the Mount Vernon School District, you shouldn’t experience any changes as we continue our implementation.
MVHS Closed Campus Policy
What Does the Closed Campus Policy Mean?
In line with Mount Vernon School District Board Policy 3242, students are required to remain on campus from the time they arrive until the end of the school day, including during lunch. As a reminder, this policy has always been in effect and is supported by RCW 28A.225.010, which mandates student attendance throughout the school day.
Exceptions:
- If a student needs to leave campus for a valid reason, such as a medical appointment, a parent or guardian must notify the school office in advance.
- Only those students with prior administrative or parental permission will be excused from the campus during school hours.
Consequences for Violations:
- Students who leave campus without permission will receive a Saturday School.
- Repeated violations will result in escalating disciplinary actions, including suspension.
How You Can Help:
- Reinforce the policy at home: Please discuss with your child the importance of staying on campus during the school day and the potential consequences of leaving without permission.
- Plan ahead: If your child has an appointment or another reason to leave campus, notify the school office ahead of time to avoid any confusion or disciplinary issues.
This policy is crucial in creating a safe, structured environment where students can focus on their education. Your support in communicating and upholding this policy is key to its success.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe and positive school environment for all students.
