Coffee Talks
What's the status of Coffee and Conversation for Parents this school year?
We WILL be back with a whole new round of great topics designed with parents in mind!
Last spring, surveys were sent out to get input from our EHSS families to find out what went well, what we can improve on and what YOU are interested in learning about.
You came through and offered wonderful and insightful feedback.
We heard you and are gearing up to start planning events for this year!
STAY TUNED...
(but, if you missed them last year and want to check them out, visit the site below to get a recap of topics/events we hosted last school year)
Stress Getting the Best of your Student?
I want to help!
I am offering a small group opportunity for middle school students. The focus will be on learning coping skills and strategies to not only manage stress and anxiety, but to live through it confidently. If your student could use some guided support please talk with them and consider signing up for the small group experience!
Study Habits and Homework
Lowering the levels of stress
The first month or two of the new school year tends to shed a lot of light on the topic of being organized and aware of what needs done. No matter what grade level we are talking about, getting back into a routine with homework and school work can be a challenge!
THIS IS NORMAL!
With a little time things start to generally smooth out and kids start to figure out what works best for them. A little help from home goes a long way too. If your tweens or teens are anything like mine, they have a standard answer when asked about having homework. It generally sounds like this:
ME: "Do you have homework tonight?"
THEM: "Nope." or "I don't know, no one told me I had any." or "Yeah but it's not due until the end of the week so I'll do it later." or, my personal favorite, "I'll do it, geez!"
All of these common answers are less than helpful to a parent trying to keep their kid accountable and on track. After all, isn't this their responsibility?
The start of the year can seem overwhelming. Check out the resources below for some tricks and tips to get your student headed in the right direction! It IS their responsibility, but as parents we can do our part to keep them accountable and on track.
EHSS Homework Guides
Unsure of how to help your student navigate their school work?
Click the buttons below for a view into each class your child has and what the typical homework routines and procedures are.
Be in the know!
***Just realize that HW procedures can change to adapt with a particular class. What is listed in these guides is the very best information as it stands right now. They are also based on a typical 5 day week.
Emailing teachers, or encouraging your child to speak with teachers, is always the best first line of defense if questions arise. They can't help if they don't know what the needs are.

Updated Parental Controls for Apps
This is a guide to the newly updated parental controls for common apps that your tween or teen may already have. If you are wondering how to manage them check out the guide below.
ALways remember, just because your middle schooler tells you that EVERYONE has an app doesn't mean they should too. Parents get to be in control of the when and the how much.
I hope the information provided in this month's newsletter proves to be useful! It is always the goal to give back to the families who support the work we do at EHSS every day. We really are here for our students and aim to see each and every one grow into the person they want to be!
Until next month, Be Well!
