Principal's Message
We had an action packed week with our visit to Parkland for the grade 2 - 9 students. We had a blast watching Percy Jackson and seeing Parkland's Drama program! Our Valentine's Day celebrations were busy with pancakes, sprinkles, dances and lots of other fun. Students enjoyed the different activities and had a blast celebrating.
Registration for new and returning students is open for the 2024-2025 school year. Please ensure you register your child sooner rather than later to help with enrolment for next year. We are also hosting a Kindergarten and Jr. Kindergarten open house on February 29 from 1:30 - 3:30 and March 14 from 4:30 - 6:30 for any families who are interested in seeing what Kindergarten and Jr. Kindergarten are like at NCS. Please spread the word to anyone you know who has children that will be coming into NCS next year.
Previously this year, I shared our schools continuous improvement plan, a document that staff use to help guide their work and ensure that we are putting in targeted supports for students to help reach these goals. Below, I have included an updated version which includes a progress report on how our first 90 days went, what we have done, and what we are putting in place moving forward.
As we all know, empowering children to stand up for what is right is crucial in fostering a compassionate and just society. I encourage you to have open and honest conversations with your children about the importance of speaking out against wrongdoing, to equip them with the confidence and moral compass to make a positive difference in the world around them. Encourage them to trust their instincts and support others in need. Teaching them empathy and the value of standing up for what is right not only shapes their character but also helps create a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.
I hope that everyone has a great long weekend ahead.
Have a wonderful week,
Bailey Benson

Learning in Action
Candy Hearts
The K/1s ran an experiment to watch dancing Candy Hearts. They used their prediction and observation skills to record what happened when they added different materials to the jar.
Battle Bots!
The 6/7 CTF class has been working on creating robots that they can battle with and this week they tested them out. Students had a blast creating and designing their robots for battles and loved getting to see them fight.
Kickball
In P.E. for the junior high, they took a break from skating and played kickball. Students enjoyed the game and getting to play a different sport.
Athletics
This week was our last league game for the basketball season. The boys played against HRH showing how much they have progressed this year and all the hard work they have put into the game. The GYAC tournament will be held in Edson, February 23 and 24.
I am waiting to hear back from Edson Minor Basketball to see if Niton is able to join their tournament and hopefully will be setting up some teams at Niton soon.
Alberta Assurance Survey
The Alberta Assurance Survey is officially open for parents to complete. You will have been mailed information for you to complete the survey if your child is in grade 4 and up. The results help the school understand what we are doing well and where we could focus our attention. Please note that while completing the survey, selecting "I don't know" shows up on our end as dissatisfied which may lead us to focus on the wrong thing. If you are unsure about a question or topic, I encourage you to reach out to the school.
