We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
We are currently studying Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles in my 8th grade literature class, and this week I was struck by a particular line from the text. "The world is full of obvious things," remarks Sherlock Holmes, "which nobody by any chance ever observes."
It got me thinking about the little things that happen here at Father Doyle School every day that may go unnoticed. A teacher staying late or coming in early to meet with students for additional support, an older student pausing in the hall to give words of encouragement to a younger student, or one student walking another to the nurse - hand in hand - when a scraped knee occurs at recess.
While they often go unnoticed, these little moments are, in a very real sense, what shape our ethos and fulfill our mission as a Catholic school. Indeed, many of these moments are captured in the descriptions of our Virtues in Practice (VIP) awards presented to students who are exemplifying the virtues in their words and deeds. Here are a few excerpts:
"This student stopped what he was doing to spend time with and reassure a new student, making him feel like a part of the community"
"This student took time out of her lunch and recess to tutor a 6th grader in English language arts."
"This student is kind and inclusive of younger students during before school care."
How blessed we are to be a part of shaping and forming this school community every day! As a reminder, our Virtues in Practice program continues this month with the virtue of reverence: showing your deepest respect for things of God. Check out the Virtue Corner below for more information, including optional home projects for families!

Reminder: Drop-Off Procedures
As a reminder, if your student arrives prior to 7:40am they will be directed to before school care and you will receive the appropriate invoice. In order to ensure student safety and appropriate supervision, any students arriving prior to 7:40am must report to before school care.
Reminder: Uniform Requirements
All students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade should be in appropriate uniform attire each day. This includes appropriate footwear, hairstyles, spirit wear, etc. For a full breakdown of our dress code, see the document here, which is also included in our Parent Student Handbook. Please note, sweatshirts must be uniform approved with appropriate school logo, purchased through an authorized retailer.
Parent-Teacher Conferences - Thursday, October 20th & Friday, October 21st
All parents received an email last Friday with details regarding our Fall parent-teacher conferences coming up on October 20th and 21st. Aftercare will run until 5:30pm on October 20th. An important reminder that Friday, October 21st will be an asynchronous learning day. There will be no in-person learning on Friday, October 21st.
Please note that teachers will provide students with assignments and materials either in hard copy the day prior, or via Google Classroom. There will be no live video classes, and students should not come to the school unless attending middle school conferences. These assignments represent a portion of the school day and are designed to allow students to continue their learning progression while teachers meet with parents for conferences. It is not possible to recreate the entirety of the school day for an asynchronous learning day.
Hard copies of scheduling forms for conferences were sent home last week. You can also find a digital copy of the forms below, keeping in mind that there are separate forms for students in grades PK-5 and students in grades 6-8. We look forward to seeing you at conferences!
