Here is this week's edition ofThe Mashpee Minute, Season 6, Episode 12

It's time to kick off MMHS Let it Snow Spirit Week! Tomorrow, Friday, December 13th, wear your ugliest sweater. The theme can be holiday, sport, MMHS, handmade, whatever you want it to be. It just has to be UGLY! There's no better day to wear your ugly sweater than Friday the 13th! There will be prizes.

Prizes will be awarded each day for the best dressed representation of each theme with one grand prize to be awarded on the 20th to someone who goes all out for all 5 days!

Officer Hennessey and K-9 Cara lost one of Cara's favorite toys and they need help finding it! Between now and December 20th, Cara will need help finding this toy because she's always losing it. If you find it, gently remove it from where you find it and bring it to the Main Office. Officer Hennessey has prizes for those who find it and bring it to her. Rules:

• You can only win a prize once. If you find it a second time, you are not allowed to touch it or claim a prize.
• You are NOT allowed to hang out with Officer Hennessey and Cara when you go to get your prize. You pick up your prize and immediately return to class.
• This is meant to be fun and low-key. If it turns into any foolishness, I will stop the game immediately.

Be good and make good choices!

Did you have an opportunity to see our production of Check Please last weekend? If not, you sure did miss out. The cast did an amazing job on the production and it was hilarious! It's very difficult for young people to effectively deliver comedy but, if you were in the audience, you were laughing throughout the whole play. A special THANK YOU goes out to Celeste Reynolds (Director), Larry Zuaro (Producer), and Patrick McPherson (Technical Producer). Without the adults who work tirelessly behind the scenes, a production will never come to life. Hours, weeks, and months speed into two nights of performance and, before you know it, it's all over. Congratulations to our amazing students and staff for delivering such a wonderfully funny show!

Congratulations to three of our fine young musicians who auditioned on Saturday for the Southeast Junior Music Festival and were all accepted. They all received very high scores and placement in their respective groups. The concert will be held in March. Excellent work! We're so proud of you!

ELPAC is the English Learner Parent Advisory Committee. Every public school in Massachusetts with 100 or more Multilingual Learners is required to establish an ELPAC. Membership is voluntary and open to all parents and legal guardians of current or former Multilingual Learners. The role of ELPAC can include:

• Creating by-laws (rules) regarding officers and operational procedures;
• Advising the school district, school committee, and board of trustees on matters related to English learners;
• Meeting regularly with school or district leaders to participate in the planning and development of programs to improve educational opportunities for English learners;
• Advising the district or school on any new proposed language acquisition programs
• Reviewing district and school improvement plans as they relate to English learners; and
• Meeting at least annually with the school committee or school council.

The next ELPAC meeting is scheduled for December 12 @ 6:00 at Quashnet School. Food and childcare are provided.

We will discuss:

1. Strategies for parents to support education at home

2. Monitoring grades in PowerSchool and Google Classroom

3. Using School Status Connect to communicate with teachers

Congratulations to five of our MMHS applicants to the Cape Cod 5 Educational Mini-Grants for being awarded mini-grants! MMHS was awarded the following mini-grants:

• Ms. Purdy for the "Who We Are" Immigration Project - $500
• Mrs. Hough for Rising UP with Robotics - $500
• Mrs. Troyanos for Making Students SHINE with Stained Glass - $500
• Ms. McCauley for the Senate Simulation Field Trip - $500
• Mrs. Kett for the Mashpee Cares Closet - $1000

MMHS is collaborating with YMCA of Cape Cod to bring an exciting opportunity for our BIPOC students here at Mashpee. The Y-Achievers Program is a college prep and career readiness program aimed to motivate BIPOC teens by giving them the support and resources to pursue and achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. Please see Ms. Almeida in Guidance B if you are interested in joining this program which is set to start in January.

Bryce, a senior student in the School to Career Program at MMHS, is pictured below. During his internship with the Cotuit Fire Department, Bryce had the opportunity to train with multiple fire departments, in coordination with the Barnstable County Center for Public Safety Training, on several firefighting skills. The training used simulated fire with theatrical water based smoke.

Mr. Looney is always looking for local businesses and industry professionals willing to support the School To Career Program with interviews, job shadows, internships and employment opportunities. Currently, he has students looking to enter the fields of plumbing, electrical, healthcare, interior design, firefighting, education, engineering, architecture, business, and information technology. On Monday, 12/9, MMHS Teachers participated in MTSS meetings before school. Way to go MMHS for keeping students at the center of our work!

Students in the Applied Technology Makerspace class who are concentrating on the Drafting and Applied Technology Pathway designed and built new tables for the Makerspace and Robotics Room. These students utilized their skills in Drafting and the industry grade software Onshape to design a table with Mrs. Hough and then build their design with assistance from CTE Southport Volunteer Denis Casaubon.
