First Day of School Visitors' Badges
MISD has upgraded safety and security procedures for all our campuses. If you would like to walk your child to their classroom on the first day of school you must provide your State ID and have a printed and clearly displayed visitor badge.
The system for verifying the background information with the ID and the printing of these badges takes some time. If you would like a "fast pass" for the first day, please stop by the front office to have your ID scanned so that we can pre-print your badge to be ready for the first day of school. You will not pick up your pre-printed badge at meet the teacher on the 13th; instead, you will be able to pick up your pre-printed visitor badge on August 15 by showing your ID to a designated staff member. If you do not have a scannable ID, you will not be able to get a pre-printed badge on August 15; As a safety measure, you may not be granted access to the building.

Dismissal Notes & START and END Times
If you arrive after 8:15am, you will need to park in the parking lot and escort your children inside for a tardy pass. Students may not be dropped off.
Transportation changes can be made through PikMyKid up until 2pm each day.
The last time to check out a student early is 3:00pm. If you have an emergency, please contact the front office.
School ends each day 3:40pm and dismissal begins at that time. Please keep these times and the time it takes to dismiss all students in mind as you register students for extra-curricular activities.
At dismissal, if you need to buckle a child into a seat for car rider, after your child is safely in the car, please pull forward into a visitor parking spot so that you can safely buckle in your child and keep our line moving.
DISMISSAL INFO- BUS, CAR RIDER, WALK-UPS
Bus Transportation & SMART TAGS
You should be able to access your child's bus route information through Skyward Family Access and through the SMART Tag parent app on your phone or online portal. If you have questions about bus transportation you can reach out to our transportation department at 936-276-2300.
Please know that depending on when we receive the new Bus tags for this year, SMART TAGS not be ready to implement on the first day of school. However, transportation should be able to manually tap students on and off via their tablets.
Car Rider and PikMyKid
Lone Star Elementary uses the PikMyKid program to track a student's primary method of transportation, to allow parents to change transportation methods, as a dispatch system for all students, and as an announcement feature for car-riders. It is important for all families to have this app downloaded with your students' linked.
PikMyKid is especially important for Car Riders as the parent will announce their arrival on the app once you've reached the designated area of the car rider line (If you don't know where that is, don't worry there's a big sign.) This will tell your child and their teacher that they can head to the loading area inside the school for dismissal. Anyone who picks your child up from school (grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.) should have the PikMyKid app downloaded and ready to go for pick-up. If someone is unable to use the app or does not have the required pick-up tag, they will have to park and check out the student from the office. This also slows down the car rider line so please have everyone prepared when it's their turn to pick up your child.
Please download the PikMyKid App from the Apple App store or the Google Play store and try to create an account from the phone # you have provided to us. If you are having any trouble creating an account, we can help you. Instead of sending an email, please complete this form as a ticket system so that we can quickly track who has been helped and who still needs assistance. Newly registered students/parents may not immediately be entered into PikMyKid due to the Skyward update times. The information for new families has been sent to PikMyKid for upload into the system. If you don't get an email from PikMyKid by Meet the Teacher, please don't worry; complete the form and we can manually add you to the PikMyKid system.
Click Here for the troubleshooting form so we can work on your concerns. PikMyKid will ONLY work on the phone numbers you have provided as part of your registration as a specific safety precaution, if you need to update those phone numbers you will need to complete it in Skyward Family Access in addition to completing the troubleshooting form.
Walk-up Dismissal Option
Lone Star plans to continue to offer walk-up dismissal as a limited pick-up method with the cooperation and partnership of Hope Church. Walk-ups are our version of walkers- students who walk home from their neighborhood campus. Families who are approved for this dismissal method must choose it as their committed daily and primary method of pick-up. Ex. students cannot just be walkers on Tuesday or as a one-time transportation change. You should not request this pick-up method if you would not be comfortable with your child walking home from school.
Two years ago we implemented new safety features, an application, and release of liability in collaboration with MISD PD in order to be able to continue to use the Walk-ups dismissal method at Lone Star Elem. Walk-ups continue to be a very popular method of dismissal for our families. However, the demand continues to exceed the supply available and the safe capacity of the Hope Church parking lot.
We want to continue to allow Walk-ups as an option for as many families as possible, while maintaining safety and being good stewards of our partnership with Hope Church. To continue to provide this optional dismissal method, Walk-ups will be limited to 48 cars/carpools slots and Lone Star will offer these 48 slots for a donation to Lone Star Elementary of $200 per year ($100/semester). These funds will be spent on LSE students and staff and fund many of our incentives that we offer throughout the year. Payment can be made by check to Lone Star Elementary at Meet the Teacher or the first day of school. If you need to break the amount into small payments, please let us know, we’re happy to make arrangements so that our families can continue to use this option.
To request approval for Walk-up method of pick-up, you will need to complete the following interest form. Those who are interested will receive an application email on a rolling basis as we have slots. Slots will be distributed from applicants on a first-come-first-served basis. We will email the appropriate forms to those who make the first 48 spaces.
You will need to sign the acknowledgement and release form and return by August 9. Your donation must be received by the evening of Meet the Teacher, August 13th. If you need to break the donation in to payments, please let us know as we are happy to work with you so that you can keep this method of transportation. LSE will change your everyday dismissal method to Walk-ups in PikMyKid. The car-rider line and bus transportation (except for LOE students) are always an available option for dismissal from LSE.
Note: We still allow car-pooling in walk-ups, so if you and another family would like to share a slot, you may do so. However, that means all students are walk-ups Monday through Friday and there is only one vehicle coming to pick them up.
Walk-up Procedures
1. Parent must arrive by 3:40 (staff does not wait with walk-up students). You must enter and exit the Hope Church parking lot following the horseshoe traffic pattern. Do not exit out of the entrance and vice versa.
2. Park at Hope Church next to LSE and remain on Hope Church property. Parents should exit their vehicles and retrieve their children from the LSE teachers.
3. Students are escorted to the edge of the Hope Church parking lot at dismissal.
4. Parents assume responsibility for their child once the walk-up line reaches the parking lot
5. Be careful as you enter and exit the parking lot. Always look and listen for children.
6. Be courteous to others and to church staff. We are all neighbors and want to continue to offer this option. Should a family continue to violate directives regarding walk-ups, the use of the option may be terminated and the family will need to return to the car-rider line or use bus transportation.
7. In the event of inclement weather, construction, or safety issues, walk-ups may be canceled and all walk-up students will be modified to car-riders for the time period affected.
