Happy 2025 and an official welcome to the second half of the school year! Quarter 3 is nearing and we have witnessed students engaging in authentic learning, inquiry, and community building within their first days back from Winter Break.

As Winter is fully upon us, please be reminded to allow yourself ample time in the morning to arrive to school safely and on time! We highly encourage you to send your child with winter gear in the event that we can have outdoor recess.

The upcoming month is filled with opportunities for our educators to check in with student progress towards grade level standards. Homeroom teachers will be communicating when your child will be participating in either Star360 (3rd-8th) or i-Ready (K-2) in the next week. This is an important point in the school year to analyze student growth, create plans of support, and ensure instruction is meeting the needs of all learners. We look forward to celebrating our students' mid-year achievements!

Dear Parents,

We would like to inform you that starting January 20, 2025, our school will begin administering the ACCESS test to all English language learners. The ACCESS test is an assessment designed to measure students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. It helps us understand how well students are developing their language skills in academic settings. Teachers use the results of this test to tailor instruction to meet each student's needs, ensuring they receive the support required to succeed both in language development and in their classroom studies. If you have any questions about the test or its purpose, please feel free to contact Mr. Argueta at gargueta@cps.edu.

Nos gustaría informarle que a partir del 20 de enero de 2025, nuestra escuela comenzará a administrar la prueba ACCESS a todos los estudiantes del idioma inglés. La prueba ACCESS es una evaluación diseñada para medir el dominio de los estudiantes en comprensión auditiva, expresión oral, lectura y escritura en inglés. Nos ayuda a comprender qué tan bien los estudiantes están desarrollando sus habilidades lingüísticas en entornos académicos. Programs Begin the week of January 27th

Interested in having your child participate in after school programs this Spring? FORGE is a FREE Before & After School Program that offers our students a combination of enrichment activities and academic interventions. Our goal is to provide quality, fun before and after school programming in an in-person setting. As this is the fifth and last year of the grant, this will be our last session of FORGE at Bateman (Summer Camp will still be happening!). More information can be found in the Spring FORGE Program Guide

Get your sparkle fingers ready! Our GOTR Team at Bateman meets twice per week. Each "practice" includes a powerful lesson on topics such as self-esteem, navigating friendships, and more! Accompanying each lesson, runners will build their stamina as a team as they work towards the culminating event of a full 5K Race in Grant Park! This year's 5K is scheduled tentatively for Saturday, May 10th.

Girls on the Run is a tuition based program. Tuition will be based on how many runners are committed to participating in the program! More information in the link below.

Check out the full season schedules below for our Girls and Boys Basketball teams! If attending, all students must be accompanied by an adult and enter through Door 1. Please double check the Bateman Calendar for all live updates should any scheduling changes occur.

This immersive experience offers a relaxed setting to help boost Spanish language skills while having fun. Bring the whole family for an evening of entertainment and learning. Esta experiencia inmersiva ofrece un ambiente relajado para ayudar a mejorar las habilidades del idioma español mientras se divierte. ​The Bateman Local School Council (LSC) supports our school by making decisions that affect our children, their education, and the environment of the school. The primary responsibilities of the LSC include the following:

• to select the school’s principal & renew the principal’s contract,
• approve the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (Bateman CIWP)
• approve the school’s budget for the school year.

Monthly meetings will take place in the Bateman Library on a rotating morning and afternoon schedule. Morning meetings will be at 8:15am and after school meetings will take place at 3:30pm.

Bateman Boosters is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting our community school. We are parents, neighbors and community friends committed to enhancing the learning experience for all Bateman students through fundraising, community events, and teacher support. All are welcome.

Join the Bateman Fathers' Club for its first ever Bowling Day at Timber Lanes on Saturday, February 24 from 2:30-5:30pm!

A few notes:

• Bowling shoes are included.
• The BFC will provide pizza, some snacks and drinks.
• Suggested donation of $5 per person to cover costs.
• Timber Lanes has a cash-only bar. (There's an ATM around the corner you can use if you forget to bring cash.)
• All children must be accompanied by an adult (i.e., no drop-offs).
• We'll be selling some raffle tickets during the event ($5 each). Prizes will include tickets to the Cubs, Wolves and more!

Timber Lanes is at 1851 West Irving Park Road. It does not have a parking lot; if you drive, street parking will be your main option.
