It's Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!
Show some love to our wonderful staff!
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is this week. As you know, we have an incredibly caring and wonderful staff at Edison. In addition to supporting our students' academic growth, our staff is also working s hard to support our students' individual social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
During Staff Appreciation Week, I encourage you to work with your children to pick at least one member of the staff who is making a difference in their life. Then send that staff member an email, have your child draw a picture, or send in a card, etc. to let them know. These small gestures take just a few minutes and mean SO MUCH to our deserving teachers, office staff, custodians, support staff, and lunch aides.
Please find a a couple printable cards linked below for your convenience.
Book Fair- Open This Week
Open Monday 5/5 - Wednesday 5/7 after school until 4:30!
Our last Scholastic Book Fair of the year takes place throughout this week!
Students will have a scheduled shopping period during their normal library day. Additionally, families can visit together after school Monday-Wednesday until 4:30PM.
The last chance to shop will be on the morning of Friday, May 9th. Book Fair will close at 11:00AM on Friday.

Periodic Outdoor Lunches
As Weather Permits
Periodically, as weather permits, between now and the end of the school year, we hope to be able to allow students to eat their lunches outside.
As such, students may want to keep a towel handy in their backpacks to utilize on these days.
M-STEP Concludes This Week for 3rd Grade
Begins Shortly After Spring Break
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.
The tentative assessment dates for M-Step are as follows:
3rd Grade
Tuesday, May 6 - Math
Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
Also, due to recent updates in State testing procedures, cell phones, smart watches, and any bluetooth device (including headphones) MUST be secured during testing. We encourage students to leave these devices home on testing days when possible. When not possible, devices will be powered down and secured during testing
Our First Annual Eaglefest- Thursday, May 15
Special Accommodations for 25-26 Classroom Assignment
If your child has a "special/unique" academic or social/emotional concern and you feel the need to provide information to school personnel regarding regarding your child's placement for next year, this form MUST be submitted by Monday, May 19th.
We will be unable to accept parent input after this date.
Due to the many variables and requirements that have become part of the classroom assignment process, requesting specific teachers is not a viable option.
Edison Spring BBQ- Thursday, May 29
Bring Blanket/Towel To Sit On
On Thursday, May 29, we'll be having our annual spring bbq, a picnic style lunch, at Edison. A BBQ hot dog lunch will be served or students may choose to bring their own lunch. Students can bring a blanket or towel to sit on.
This is always a fun, welcomed change in routine for our students!

Parking Lot Reminders
Please Do Not Park/Idle/Stop in Marked Areas
- Please adhere to our 5mph speed limit in our parking lot. We've recently received several reports of cars driving too fast in the parking lot at arrival/dismissal time. Please drive slowly and use caution!
- We do not have crossing guards for our parking lot. Our Y5-2 students must be accompanied by an adult through the parking lot. However, it is highly recommended that all parents park their cars and walk up to retrieve their students to escort them through the lot at dismissal time.
- Unfortunately, we don’t have a “bus loop” at Edison, which also limits our ability for a curbside drop off/pick up lane. Our transportation department needs us to stop stopping/parking/idling in the areas marked with a red 'x' (essentially, every turn/curve of the lot) because the busses cannot get through.
- Please park in a designated parking spot at arrival and dismissal, while you wait to drop off/pick up your children.
- All Y5-2nd grade students must be picked up by an adult at their doors.
- 3rd-6th grade students are dismissed out their doors and may navigate the parking lot as their parents see fit. Please note, our staff does our best to help kids cross when possible, but we do not have designated crossing guards in our lot. The safest option will always be for parents to park, walk up, drop off/retreive their child(ren), and navigate the lot with their child(ren).
- At dismissal time, please don’t sit idle in driving lane while waiting for your student.
PTO Updates
Introducing Our PTO Officers
This year, our PTO has been led by the following officers. We're so appreciative of their efforts! They have worked so hard to help promote such a positive school culture and have spent countless hours to help ensure that our students have had great experiences this year!
- President: Sarah Moaut
- Vice President: Lisa Heckman
- Treasurer: Cierra Prophit
- Secretary: Melissa Loder
On Thursday, April 10th, we voted for the following officer positions for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. We're excited to announce that Cierra Prophit will be taking the lead as PTO president and Lisa Heckman will be continuing to serve as Vice President!
If you have interest in taking on an open officer position, please contact Mrs. Wiegand.
A Few School Policies & Procedures To Make Note Of:
Attendance
Your child's lifelong school/work attendance habits are being deeply established right now. Parents should make every effort to get their child to school by 8:30AM each day and allow them to stay for the full duration of every day. Excessive absences, tardies, and early dismissals hugely impact a child's confidence, social interactions, and school performance.
Birthday Treats
Birthday students may bring store-bought, individually wrapped treats/snacks or trinkets to distribute to their classmates to be taken home. Please do not send in a tray of cupcakes, homemade baked goods, pizza, etc intending for them to be consumed at school- as many students have dietary restrictions that need to be closely monitored by their parents & school staff. All treats/trinkets will be sent home with students.
Cell Phones
Hot Food Deliveries
Please do not plan to drop off "hot lunches" for your child at lunch time. This includes parents/family members dropping off fast food and/or Door Dashing food for their children. It is very logistically challenging to ensure that your child receives the food delivery on time and often results in students spending much of their lunch period awaiting a delivery.
