Jeffries Journal
October 2024
From the Principal
Happy October Jaguar Families!
This is my favorite time of year! Our kiddos have settled into a routine, we are knee deep in learning, and the fall foliage is stunning. Additionally, we have so many things coming up this month; our 5th grade musical, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and our fall fundraiser just to name a few! Be sure to look at the calendar below so you don't miss out on something! Thanks for sharing your kiddos with us each day. We so enjoy seeing their smiling faces each and every day!
Sincerely,
Dr. Glenn
Announcements & Reminders
- Please call the main office 417-523-3900 if you'd like to visit with your classroom teacher. Ms. Jennelle or Ms. Felicia will leave a note for your child's teacher and they will call you back during their plan time or after school. Please refrain from calling teachers on their classroom phones.
- Please refrain from dropping your student off until we open the doors at 7:00 AM. If you drop your child off before 7:00 AM, they will not be supervised. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
- If your student is going to be absent, please call the main office to let us know.
- Be sure to follow the Jeffries Elementary Facebook page for updates and current events.
- This year, we will be celebrating your student's birthday by letting them come to the office to select a book and a pencil.
- The Jeffries Journal will come out at the beginning of each month.
- Due to the number of behavior issues we are having in the bathrooms, we put a schedule in place for students to visit the restroom. All classrooms have an AM and PM restroom break scheduled. If a child needs to use the restroom outside of the assigned times, they are allowed to go to the restroom with an assigned buddy from the class. Thanks for talking with your child about proper bathroom etiquette!
- We ask that students bring water bottles that are leak free. Students have a designated spot within the classroom for water bottles to reduce spills. Students are allowed to fill them up when they take their AM and PM restroom breaks.
- If you're child was selected as this month's Jaguar of the Month, you should have received an invitation from your child's teacher with details about the assembly. We ask that only parents of students being recognized come to the celebration assembly.
ACTION REQUIRED: Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up October 21st-November 1st. During these meetings we will discuss student celebrations, progress in standards-based grading, and address concerns/questions you might have with your teacher. If you haven't already, please connect with your child's classroom teacher to schedule a time to meet with them. We require 100% participation from our families as we believe it is important to share progress and successes in student learning with you.
PBIS Signature Spending Parties & Celebration Assembly Information
Our first signature spending party will be this Friday, October 4th. Your child has been earning signatures on a signature card for showing The Jaguar Way (Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible.) within our building. Students spend their signatures once a month on a preferred activity within the building. This month the choices for signature spending are:
1 Signature: Read, Write, or Draw
5 Signatures: Board Games
10 Signatures: Extra Recess
15 Signatures: Fall Craft with Ms. Ohrenberg
20 Signatures: Wear a hat for a day coupon + Choice of Activity
Following signature spending parties, we will head straight into our monthly celebration assembly. During this time, we will review expectations and incentives for the following month for signature spending, celebrate our student Jaguars of the Month, recognize classes with 95% or more attendance, and wrap-up the assembly by playing a Minute to Win It game.
Please continue to visit with your child about school-wide and classroom expectations. It is important that students are learning these expectations as we hope to foster a school and classroom environment that are safe and engaging for your child. When visiting with your child about showing The Jaguar Way, you can remind them of the activities they are working for each month. The activities for our next signature spending party on Friday, November 1st are:
1 Signature: Read, Write, Draw, or Color
10 Signatures: Spin the Prize Wheel
50 Signatures: Fall Read Aloud (Mrs. Puryear) and Fall Craft (Ms. Ohrenberg)
75 Signatures: Glow Scooters in Cafe with Coach Heffner
