Dorr Families,
Mother Nature made sure we are aware it is winter with the sub zero temps and snow this week! But all was not lost as we got to participate in 2 Snow Day Challenges this week! Congratulations to our winners! Now is a good time to take stock of your child's snow gear. Make sure everything is labeled. Our lost and found is becoming quite full. Remind your child to look there if they are missing any items!
Warm Winter Regards,
Mrs. Seniura
The Dentist Rescheduled! - Now 1/27/25!
Our school has arranged for a dentist to come right to the school. Students will be seen on Friday, January 24, 2025. By seeing the in-school dentist, you can keep your child healthy, in school, and learning. Plus, it’s easy and convenient for you.
Simply click the button below to be re-directed to the on-line registration form. Paper registration forms will come home with your child upon their return in January. *PLEASE NOTE: ONLY STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE REGISTRATION ONLINE OR HAVE TURNED IN A PAPER REGISTRATION FORM WILL BE SEEN.
Outstanding People In Education
Dorr Elementary is lucky to have some of the best staff members around! Why not recognize them by nominating your favorite staff members for the "Outstanding People In Education" award! It's that time of year again, the Allegan County School Board Association is accepting nominations for the "Outstanding People for Education" award! The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor people in education who are excelling in their field and/or are making an impact in the quality of education in Allegan County.
Examples of whom to nominate could include: a teacher, classroom aide, administrator, secretary, board member, volunteer, bus driver, custodian, support staff, social worker, therapist, consultant, community member, or anyone who supports education.
Nominations can come from anyone (students, parents, school staff and community members) and can also be kept anonymous.
The nomination process will look a little different this year, but it will be much simpler. Please click the link or scan the QR code in order to access the Google Form. Nominations are due by Friday, February 28th, 2025.
Coaches Vs. Cancer Spirit Week Jan 27-31st!
From The Desk Of The Social Worker.....
Dorr Elementary participates in a program called Peer to Peer. Students, with different backgrounds and circumstances, come together to engage in shared activities where ALL students learn together.
Our 2nd and 3rd graders who follow our 3 B's (Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe) are chosen by our Dorr team to participate in this program. I oversee the program with the help of our Level 2 Special Education teacher, Mrs. Onken!
Each month, Mrs. Onken and I will be showcasing two PEERs that have been excelling in their work as a PEER at Dorr Elementary. For the month of January, our two PEERs are.....Millie Smith and Sadie Perrin!!!
Millie Smith goes above and beyond any job or task. She is always looking to do more. Millie helps in Mrs. Onken’s classroom and in her own classroom. She helps wherever there is a need! We are proud to have her as a PEER!
Sadie Perrin helps empower students within her classroom. She helps students with their schoolwork and to stay on task. Mrs. Licari always has something positive to say about Sadie. Sadie is a very sweet girl to everyone! We are proud to have her as a PEER!
Lost and Found
It's the time of year that our lost and found areas start to grow! If anything in these pictures look familiar, feel free to come on down and take a look!
In a school of over 300 kiddos, there are bound to be look alike items. You may consider labeling your students items with a sharpie. This will help our staff reunite lost items with their owners!

My Child Is Sick. What Do I Do?
The cold and flu season is approaching. Dorr Elementary is already seeing an influx of sickness in the classrooms. Please help us stop the spread of these nasty viruses by following these guidelines.
- If you need to call your student in ill, it is helpful if you give a brief list of symptoms, rather than "my student is sick". Reporting symptoms helps us identify possible outbreaks.
- Please keep your student home if they have a fever. Students are welcome to return to school once they are fever free without medication for 24 hours.
- Please keep your student home if they are vomiting or have diarrhea. Students are welcome to return once they are vomit/ diarrhea free without the use of medication for 24 hours.
Attendance Questions Explained
*Menu subject to change.
Please contact Food Service for questions.
Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to learn by 8:50am each day. Students who arrive AFTER 8:50am but BEFORE 9:05am will be marked as AM TARDY. Students who arrive AFTER 9:05am will be marked as 1/2 day AM ABSENT.
Students are expected to complete the school day at 3:50pm. Students who need to be picked up between 3:30pm and 3:49pm will be marked as PM TARDY. Students leaving BEFORE 3:30pm will be marked as 1/2 day PM ABSENT.
If your student is ill, please contact the office to report their absence. It is helpful if you report the students symptoms as it helps us identify break outs of illnesses across classrooms and grades.
Students who are absent will be coded as follows:
Unexcused absence: Students who are absent for illness or other reason, and parent has notified the office will be marked as unexcused absence. The reason for absence will be noted.
Unknown absence: Students who are absent and the office has received no communication from parent/guardian will be marked as unknown absence.
Excused absence: Students who are absent and return with a doctors note that includes the dates/times the student is to be excused, will be marked as excused absence.
Students who obtain 5 & 7 unexcused or unknown absences during the school year will receive a letter from the school bringing the absences to your attention.
Students who obtain 10 unexcused and/or unknown absences during the year will be asked to meet with the principal and may be subject to truancy. Wayland Union Schools district policy outlining attendance can be found in the student handbook.
