A Message from Principal Cutone
October 11, 2024
Dear HES Caregivers,
We had a fantastic week at HES, full of exciting moments and community building! One of the week's highlights was our All School Walk on Wednesday morning, where many of our local firefighters and police officers joined us to give our Sharks high fives. This event was part of International Walk, Ride, and Roll Day, aimed at encouraging students to develop lifelong habits of physical activity and spending time outdoors. These walks offer students a chance to connect with peers in a non-academic setting, fostering the sense of belonging that we strive to create for every Shark. After the walk, both minds and bodies were refreshed and ready to learn!
We were also thrilled to see so many new and returning faces at our daily Shark Bites lunches! This special opportunity allows grownups to join their children for lunch at school. If you'd like to sign up for next week's lunches, please see the link to the form below. Do keep in mind that there is no school on Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and we will have early dismissal at 10:50 AM on both Tuesday and Thursday for parent-teacher conferences. Therefore, Wednesday and Friday will be our only days for Shark Bites next week. A friendly reminder from the cafeteria staff: if you plan to purchase lunch, please bring exact change or a check for the $5 adult meal, as they are unable to provide change for larger bills.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at parent teacher conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers, discuss your child’s transition into the new school year, and set meaningful goals for the months ahead.
Wishing everyone a wonderful long weekend! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do to support you and your family.
Warmly,
Christie

Harwich Children's Fund Outerwear/Gift Drive
Hello Families! Your student should have brought home a form from the Harwich Children’s Fund Outerwear/Gift Drive, which provides assistance for the holidays in December. Please note the deadline to return the form to school is October 25th. If you did not receive a form call (508) 430-7216 or email Kelly Emmett at kemmett@monomoy.edu to request one. Translated forms are also available upon request! Thank You!
Notes from the Health Room
We are still missing many of the Aspen over the counter administration forms and the Health History Forms. Please go back into the registration that you did at the beginning of the school year, search for the part with the health questions and make sure they are completed. This will allow us to know if there are concerns about your child’s health as well as give them acetaminophen or ibuprofen if needed.

Harwich Elementary School Council
We look to build a strong School Council this year to guide our important work. A School Council is a representative, school building-based committee that meets quarterly and is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members, and students. School Councils are tasked to assist principals in:
Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
Formulating a school improvement plan
Reviewing the student handbook
If you are interested please send an email message to principal Christie Cutone at ccutone@monomoy.edu indicating your interest in serving on the school council.
