The Pritchett Post -- 11/1/24
Home of the Panthers!
Dear Pritchett Families,
Our Pritchett Panthers had an amazing Halloween! Even the strong winds could not stop our Halloween parade! What a great sight to see! This was followed by the Halloween classroom parties. The costumes were fantastic! Special thanks to our PTO for sponsoring providing money for the Halloween parties, and for arranging our parent room helpers! See the pictures throughout the newsletter.
We enjoyed highlighting October’s trait of strong character, determination. In November we are focusing on the trait of gratitude. This ties in perfectly with our Portrait of a Graduate. When a teacher sees a student demonstrating gratitude, that child will be acknowledged by having his/her name and action shared during morning announcements. Afterward, the student will come to the office and will be given a gold bracelet. The gold bracelet is our way of congratulating children for modeling the important character trait of gratitude.
This week we began Unit 2 of Second Step® Elementary, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve children’s social-emotional skills. Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help children both in and out of school. In Unit 2, Emotion Management, children will learn how to identify and label emotions and use emotion-management strategies—including stress management for older students—to calm strong feelings. Click below on your child's grade-level to learn more about this important unit!
Take care and be well,
Dr. Moreland -- Principal
Parent-Teacher Conferences
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting your child’s academic and social-emotional growth and success, we invite you to attend our annual fall Parent-Teacher Conference. This conference is an important opportunity for us to discuss your child’s progress, strengths, and areas where additional support may be needed with the teachers working with your child. Please understand this is not an opportunity to meet with staff who are not working with your child.
Pritchett School will have (3) fall conference dates:
Thursday, November 21, 2024 (4:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
Friday, November 22, 2024 (8:20 am - 3:50 pm)
Wednesday, December 4, 2024 (4:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
**Please ONLY sign up for (1) conference over the (3) days indicated above.**
Please click the button below for all the teacher links, and the steps, to select your conference day and time. Once your time has been scheduled, please be sure your confirmation email matches your calendar invitation.
Erin's Law Assembly
On January 24, 2013, Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193, which requires schools to annually implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12.
District 102 social workers and psychologists will present to our first through third-grade students in compliance with state law on November 6. Kindergarten students will have their presentation on November 8. This program is designed to empower and educate children. The presentation will discuss the following topics in an approximately 30-minute session:
Distinguishing Safe from Unsafe Touches
Safe vs. Unsafe Secrets
Personal Body Safety and Saying “No”
Telling a Trusted Adult
For additional information about Erin’s Law, please visit www.erinslaw.org. Together, we can ensure our children are safe and know where to go if they are not.
Requests to Opt-Out: If you prefer that your child opt out of this prevention education session, please send your email to Dr. Moreland.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt K. Moreland, Principal (mmoreland@d102.org)
Mrs. Julie Cummings, Assistant Principal

- Kindergarten: Red, White, and/or Blue
First Family Book Club a Huge Hit!
On Wednesday, October 23, Pritchett families attended the first Family Book Club of the year. The event began with a reading of the Monarch-nominated book "Rise to the Sky: How the World's Tallest Trees Grow Up" by Rebecca E. Hirsch. Participants then measured the height of trees, discovered how to tell a tree's age, learned about the life cycle of a tree, and created art with fall leaves. Thank you to all the families that attended! Visit the Pritchett Library Facebook page or Webpage to see more pics from the event.
