HMS Reads - Summer 2024
Happy Summer Reading!
We are so excited to launch our summer reading this year! Based on feedback from students and parents, we have made some adjustments that will hopefully keep summer reading fun for all. Reading in the summer is one great way to prevent the "summer slide" that students often have when they return to school in the fall. We hope you love your books as much as we do!
Summer Reading Q & A
1. Do I have to purchase the book? No! Students will come home with a copy of the book the last school week in May! This SMORE newsletter will be included on the back cover of the book. Just scan the QR code!
2. Do we have to return the book to school? No! The book is yours to keep. Kids can write in them, highlight, take notes, etc. because it's their gift from us!
3. What about the audio book? We LOVE audiobooks and they are great supports for struggling readers and auditory learners. We've even linked access for you!
4. Does it count as a grade? Yes, students will take a comprehension test on the book when the return in the fall. However, the test won't be until a couple of weeks after school begins.
5. Are there any required summer assignments? No! Just read! (or listen if you are an audiobook lover like Dr. Hicks!)
6. My kid is really into reading graphic novels. Can he read that version instead? Absolutely!
