THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK

Wasco Weekly
January 24, 2025
Dear Families,
We are happy to announce the official launch of our newest second-grade classroom! Miss Mariah Gonzalez has joined our school community and is leading our newest classroom with enthusiasm and dedication.
This week, we held a Meet and Greet event to welcome families and the students, providing an opportunity for parents and students to meet Miss Gonzalez and explore the new learning space. The first day of class was a heartwarming milestone. Our staff has been highly involved, ensuring a smooth transition and demonstrating remarkable empathy and support for both students and families during this exciting change. A highlight of the week was our all-second-grade community meeting, where the students participated in conversations about friendships and emotions. These conversations are activities we will continue to help our learners develop social-emotional skills and build supportive classroom communities. We are off to a fantastic start and cannot wait to see how our newest Wolf Pack will learn, grow, and thrive together!
Kind regards,
Mrs. Brennan

Parent Teacher Conferences
On Thursday, February 27th, all elementary students in D303 will have a half-day of school due to our Spring parent-teacher conferences. These conferences serve a different purpose than our Fall goal-setting conferences. Spring conferences provide teachers the opportunity to connect with families of students to discuss progress towards goals and areas for growth. The February 27 conferences have a much shorter time frame of 1:15-3:35. This means that teachers will only be able to meet with a few families that afternoon. Your child’s teacher will be sending a letter home with either a request to meet or a message stating that a conference is not necessary at this time.
Due to the 12:00 dismissal, students will not have lunch at school that day. All classrooms will take a snack break at some point in the morning.

Food Service Update
Organic Life is offering Plant Based options alongside traditional entrees on our menu.
This will include Plant Based meatballs, burgers, chicken nuggets, chicken patties and chicken tenders.
Grades K-5 menus will reflect the added options and students will be able to choose "Plant Based Entree E" in the morning when they choose their lunch entree in the classroom.
We are excited to take this step to provide Plant Based items to the students! If you have any questions please contact Kathie Travis at 331-228-5711 or kathie.travis@d303.org.
Nurse Update
Families,
Unfortunately, our school nurse has resigned. Until the replacement nurse is on board, the D303 nursing team will be supporting Wasco students. Any correspondence can be forwarded directly to our front office or you can use the following email address: was-nurses@d303.org
Kane County Cougars Reading Club
Wasco will be participating in Cougars Reading Club, a reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills while earning a free ticket to a Cougars game, a free hot dog and drink at the game, and participating in a parade on the field before the game. They will also receive a ‘golden ticket’ which gets them and an adult into any home Cougars game for free for the 2025 season. It is an eight week program divided into four-two week segments. Your child needs to complete one hour of reading per week and record their accomplishments on the parent verification form that was sent home last week. After your child has completed the eight weeks of reading, he or she will get a voucher for games either on Saturday, May 17, at 6:30 pm or Sunday, May 18, at 1:00pm. More information will be sent home regarding the games.
STEM Night on Tuesday, April 22nd from 5:30 till 7pm at Wredling Middle School.
District 303 Partners With GPS Parent Series
District 303 is proud to partner with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) to offer our families broader access to information sessions and resources that support their child’s development.
For decades, GPS has been offering free programs that aim to empower and strengthen families, individuals and communities. As a partner organization, District 303 will support promoting upcoming programs and their importance to our local community.

Wasco Parking Lot Guide 24-25
The map below displays how Wasco organizes dismissal for car riders. We will be directing students to wait on our “front lawn” for their ride. If they see their families' vehicles, they can walk along the sidewalk and enter the stopped vehicle. If you would like to leave your car to pick up your child, you are free to park in the lot.
You can save this as a handy reference for your caregivers or visiting family members who do pick up as well!
