Tardy to School Procedure
To be counted present, students must attend the required number of hours each day. Therefore, students who are tardy or leave before the end of the day must be present for at least one half of the instructional day, excluding lunch to be counted for the instructional day.
Procedure:
Listed below is the progressive discipline cycle for tardy to school that will restart at the beginning of each term:
1st tardy: Warning
2nd tardy: Warning
3rd tardy: Administrative Detention
4th tardy: Administrative Detention
5th tardy: Parent Meeting and Student Success Plan
*If there is a hardship creating a barrier to attending school on time please reach out, gburns@salemk12.org . Salem High School will look to create a plan that removes as many barriers as possible.

Completely free after school program for students grades 9-12 where you can get homework help, try different activities, go on fun field trips, explore your career interests and meet new people! We are a drop-in center therefore you can come whenever you are available, perfect for those who have a busy schedule as well!

Medical Assisting Scholars Take Sessions at Harvard MEDscience
Senior Medical Assisting students attended their first in-person laboratory simulation session at Harvard MEDscience. This fall, SHS CTE has partnered with Harvard Medical School for a hybrid fall semester. Each week the medical assisting students attend a virtual Case Study led by Harvard’s teachers and lab directors.

Equitable Excellence Scholarship®
Equitable Excellence Scholarship®
Equitable Excellence Scholarship® is the flagship program of Equitable Foundation, the company’s charitable-giving arm.The enhanced scholarship program includes renewable scholarships and engagement to create pathways to opportunities for aspiring college students.
We are pleased to announce our 2024 Equitable Excellence Scholarship® application period is now open and will be active until December 18th, 2023, 3:00 p.m. CST. This year, Equitable Foundation has a renewed focus to recognize students who demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in their school, local community, or work activities.
In alignment with Equitable’s own mission of helping people achieve financial security so that they can face the future with confidence, the Equitable Excellence Scholarship® places an emphasis on empowering students’ future plans so that they can continue to have positive impacts in their community.
To support students throughout their academic journeys, Equitable will provide 100 $5,000 annual scholarships that will be renewed to award recipients each academic year for four years, for a total of $20,000 per recipient. The company will also award 100 one-time $2,500 scholarships that can help students to underwrite immediate costs associated with higher education such as tuition, books or room and board.
In addition to providing monetary scholarships, Equitable will offer award recipients with development opportunities and engagement programs to support their onboarding into their first year of college. Programs will include a strong emphasis on mental health as well as other workshop opportunities that focus on mentoring, networking, and professional skill-building programs with Equitable’s own workforce and executive leadership teams.
The Equitable Excellence Scholarship® is supported through new strategic partnerships between Equitable and Scholarship America, CommonApp and the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) to assist students who apply for the scholarship and are seeking resources to support the college application process.

We’re committed to students who show potential. Those with the courage to pursue what’s possible; display strength in managing challenges; share wisdom with others. The Equitable Excellence Scholarship® is our promise to those individuals dedicated to achieving their dreams.
- Be a current high school senior that resides in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico, who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
- Demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in school, community, or work activities.
- Be willing to provide a release to publicize their identities and information about their plans or achievements along with photographs for use in Program promotion/information.
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

College Visits in the C3 Conference room are now available!
Salem High School has many college representatives to meet with prospective students during the Crew block Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for scholars to learn more about specific colleges that may align with their interests and post secondary career plans. Any junior or senior is able to sign up through Naviance or at the C3 desk to meet with a representative. A full list of schools are available on Naviance under the College Tab - Visits.

FAFSA ID Support (Postponed - more information to follow)
The 24-25 FAFSA will not be available until sometime in December versus being available in October in previous years. This is definitely going to affect colleges and institutions across the board in regards to their admissions process and their financial aid process. The North Shore EOC is prepared to adapt to these various changes and we want to offer some services and events leading up to the debut of the new application to make this a lot easier for students and parents.
EOC has partnered with Salem High School to offer in school appointments to begin the process to create FSA IDs in advance of the application! On NOVEMBER 30TH students can get support to create FSA IDs with support from our community partner!
