Murphy Elementary's Third Annual Family Literacy Night a Smashing Success!
Over 250 parents and students joined Murphy Elementary for its third annual Family Literacy Night, a sports-themed celebration of reading! Students enjoyed a variety of activities, including creating retelling bracelets, coloring bookmarks, playing Scrabble, making directed drawings, and reading partner plays. The PTO generously provided free books for all children ages 0-18 in attendance.
Many community partners helped make the night special by hosting rooms, including the CADL Haslett Public Library, a local Girl Scout troop, the Friends of the Haslett Library, and the MSU Latin American and Caribbean Studies group.
Highlights of the evening included a visit from guest author Allison Spooner and three MSU football players! Students also enjoyed reading with Murphy's Buddies PALs (Ellie, Mazzie, Millie, and Ms. Heidi) in the library, winning prizes in the Bingo Room, and choosing books from the Book Exchange Room.
"We are thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm for literacy," said Kevin Hatch, Principal. "This event wouldn't be possible without the support of our community members, staff, and parents."
A special thanks to Maggie Jada for creating the fantastic photo booth backdrop inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

Their mission is to serve the children of the world through various service projects and initiatives. The Kiwanis Club's donation to our school libraries is a testament to their commitment to education and their belief in the power of knowledge.
