Principal's Message
We are off to a fantastic start to the school year. I love to feel the energy around the beginning of school. Students and staff are taking time to get to know each other and building community in their classrooms. I love seeing all the smiling faces as everyone arrives in the morning.
Our morning routine on Tuesdays - Fridays remains the same with doors opening at 7:35. At that time students have two choices. They can go to the cafeteria for breakfast or head to the gym for our morning mindfulness time. Our classrooms will open at 7:50. If students arrive after 7:50 they can grab breakfast or head straight to their classrooms. Breakfast and lunch are free for all students. Mondays are always late start, which means everything runs one hour later.
We encourage you to volunteer in your child’s classroom, work in our school garden, and/or go on a field trip this year. To do this you will need to complete our background check process. To do this you will need to visit the district website, look under volunteer, and then click on the link to the volunteer application. You can also follow this link Volunteer Application. Everything is done electronically. This will take about 2 weeks before your application can be processed. Once you have been approved you are good to start. Your clearance is good for two years so if you completed one last year you are good to go for this year.
I am confident that we will have an amazing school year. We could not do this without you!

NSSD Parent/Student RESPONSIBLE Use Form (RUF) Grades K-5
Parents, teachers will be reviewing this information with your children in class. It is highly encouraged that you discuss these expectations with them at home.
The NSSD strongly believes in equipping our students with the skills and knowledge to become future-ready. We expect students to understand that using their devices is a privilege, and any privilege comes with responsibility. The following are the expectations when students use school devices:
How should I use technology?
I will use my device when a staff member asks me during class, during my own study time or during breaks.
When a staff member says it’s time for a device break, I will put my devices away.
I will ask for permission before downloading any new apps.
I will take care of any school devices as if they were my own.
What should I do with technology?
I will use my device to learn new things.
I will check the information to verify that it is true.
I will give credit to the creators of content that is not mine.
How should I interact with other people?
I will be a good cyber-friend, including being honest and kind online.
I will let a teacher or parent know before contacting someone online I don’t already know.
I will not share personal information (like my home address or birthdate) about myself or others online.
I will give feedback and comments in ways that make others feel supported and welcome.
I will use appropriate language and won’t make others feel uncomfortable because of the things I say.
What happens when something goes wrong?
When I do something that is not in line with this agreement, I will talk to a teacher or trusted adult who will help me figure out how to make it right.
I will immediately stop and tell a trusted adult if anything happens on the computer or online that does not seem right or makes me feel uncomfortable.
I understand that using any school technology is a privilege I must earn. If I don’t keep my part of this agreement, I understand that privileges may be removed for a time and that I may face additional consequences.

Parent Drop Off Procedures for the Morning
For those of you who drop off your students in the morning, please remember that you must stay in your vehicle when you pull up to the curb. Drop off should be quick, one car at a time, thus keeping the flow moving smoothly and safely. If you choose to walk into school with your child, you must park your vehicle in a parking spot. Please keep in mind that safety is our top priority. Thank you for your patience as we transition to the new school year.
Picture Day is Sept. 24th
Portrait Masters will be here to take school-wide pictures. You will have the option to order prints online. More information will be available soon.
Dental Screenings Oct. 7th - 10th
