The Tonasket setting is rural with magnificent topography of mountains and valleys. The Okanogan River, part of the Columbia River system, flows through the town of Tonasket. JOB DESCRIPTION
FOOD SERVICE SUPERVISOR/HEAD COOK
DEPARTMENT: Food Services
UNION EXEMPT: Yes
REPORTS TO: Superintendent, Contracted Food Service Director (if applicable)
WORK DAYS: 190 work days with 11 paid holidays, Monday - Friday, 8 Hours per Day: 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the implementation and coordination of all food services to ensure high-quality standards of nutrition, food production, and service. Supervise food service employees within each kitchen. Perform cooking and administrative duties under the direction of the superintendent. To provide nutritional and attractive meals, including ala carte selections, to schools as specified.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Preparation of high-quality food items according to standardized recipes or instructions in a fast, efficient manner to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
Serve meals or prepare for delivery at times, using correct portioning, meeting USDA minimum standards, and ensuring that food is at the correct temperatures and is attractive and tasty. Store leftovers following safe food handling procedures.
Supervise assistant cooks, clerks, and student workers, ensuring that each worker maintains proper safety and sanitation standards.
Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and storing excess food properly.
Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. All food and supply items are to be stored and rotated correctly.
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as per local, state, and federal guidelines.
Order supplies and food needed for all kitchens. Assist in receiving, handling, and inventory of all food and supplies.
Maintain a Safety and Sanitation meeting. This should be done monthly to go over concerns and procedure problems. Follow correct procedures for safety and sanitation at all times.
Report needed maintenance and faulty equipment to Maintenance immediately.
Report all accidents in accordance with district policy and procedure.
Attend in-service and/or district safety meetings as required.
Work effectively and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, school personnel, administrators, students, parents, and Superintendent.
Performance evaluations must be done yearly or more often as needed for each
food service staff member.Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Work with district staff to ensure all needed applications and reporting are completed before deadlines.
Evaluate and ensure proper training for all assigned staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current Food Handler's Card is required.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to #50 pounds on a repetitive basis.
Ability to read and write English and perform simple arithmetic, including weights and measures. Ability to make rapid calculations.
Experience in quantity, food preparation, and institutional equipment use and care.
Willingness to make needed or recommended changes in the program.
Must relate well with fellow employees, students, and staff.
Must be clean and well groomed, have a positive attitude, and a willingness to work.
Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures.
Stamina to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to follow oral and written directions and adapt to changing situations.
Computer skills such as inter-office Email, Word, and Excel are recommended.
EVALUATION
A performance evaluation is completed once per year or more often as required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hours may vary according to need. During a normal working year, student attendance days plus time are assigned before and after school to open and close kitchens.
MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.
