February Design Principle: Diversity and Inclusion
“We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences, while pulling together for the common good.”
~Ruth Bader Ginsberg
Hello Glennwood Families,
Happy Leap Year - an extra day we are given every four years to ___________ (fill in the blank😁). I hope this extra day on the calendar gives you an opportunity to do just that, as spring is upon us. Spring is always a busy time of year for schools and families. We will be sharing a timeline of Glennwood spring events for families in early April so that you can make plans for end-of-year activities.
We have two events in early March that I hope you will consider attending. I am offering a coffee chat for parents on Friday, March 8 to give a scheduling overview for the 2024-2025 school year. We will meet immediately following Community Circle in the art classroom, room 224. PTA will provide coffee.
Thursday, March 14 is Pi Day! Our PTA and instructional team are hosting Pi(e) Night from 5:30-7:30 pm. PTA will be providing pizza and Glennwood staff will be sharing math games for families to play and learn. Additionally, our spring book fair will be open for evening shopping hours during this event which benefits our Glennwood Media Center. Please review the announcements below for more details. We hope to see you there!
Thank you to the families who have completed the Georgia Parent Survey! This survey was developed to measure parent perceptions of school climate at Glennwood; and your opinion is very important to us. Your survey responses are anonymous and confidential and will be combined with the responses of other Glennwood parents to identify areas in need of improvement. It is a quick survey! Thank you for your time and participation.
Warmest regards,
Holly Brookins, Ph.D.

Black History Month Mystery Person Contest
Our mystery person contest continues this last week as we honor famous African Americans for Black History Month. One way we have been celebrating at Glennwood is by revealing clues over the morning and afternoon announcements about a famous African American. At the end of the week, the famous person will be revealed, and one student’s name who answers correctly will be drawn to receive a prize. This week's winner will be revealed tomorrow. Thank you for participating!
You may help your child research the clues at home. Here are the clues for our last week.
Increasing Communication through Family Meetings - Coffee Chat on March 22
In today’s world, families are finding less time to connect. From the demands of dual income households, to extracurricular activities, and even the use of electronic devices, many external factors claim the family’s focus. Weekly Family Meetings can assist not only in time management, but more importantly in providing opportunities for parents and children to discuss important issues, strengthen communication, reinforce values, and nurture positive relationships. Please come for a Coffee Chat with Glennwood school counselor and licensed professional counselor (LPC) Jonathan Blase to get all the resources necessary to begin family meetings on your own!

Backyard Builders: Make a Home for Mason Bees!
Join Wylde Center and Beecatur on March 2nd at Edgewood Community Learning Garden for the 5th annual “Backyard Builders: Make a Home for Mason Bees!” program.
This educational workshop will introduce kids to Mason Bees, one of metro Atlanta’s most important early-Spring pollinators. Learn how to spot them, where they live, their unique life-cycle and how they are similar and different from other bees. We’ll look at a variety of different homes that Mason bees can live in and then assemble and decorate a simple Mason Bee house that can be hung in your yard — just in time to provide a home for these emerging bees!
Visit www.wyldecenter.org for more information.
Green Scenes Workshop

Lindsey is the owner of Green Scenes Workshop. Her work combines her love of plants and woodworking with a focus on sustainability. She uses reclaimed wood and other up-cycled materials sourced from Atlanta and Decatur neighborhoods.
