Lisa Barrager appointed to fill open seat on Springfield School Board
Lisa Barrager is the most recent member to join the Springfield School Board. She was appointed on Sept. 23 as one of six candidates who applied to fill the Position 5 seat vacated by Karen Hunter in May.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education with an emphasis in psychology from Western Oregon University, Barrager currently works as a Wraparound Facilitator at Direction Service, in Springfield. The nonprofit works with at-risk youth.
Barrager has said that she is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of adequate mental health and special education services, including trauma-informed practices. She’s also committed to working toward more individualized education services and promoting student success, especially in underserved populations.
As a longtime Springfield resident for more than 50 years, Barrager is the second of three generations of her family who attended and graduated from Springfield High School.
Other current board members include Naomi Raven, Position 4, who was appointed to the position in October of 2018; newer member Todd Mann who was elected to Position 1 in the May special election to take over for incumbent Laurie Adams; Board Chair Zach Bessett and Emilio Hernandez who were both elected in May 2017. Their terms expire on June 30, 2021, as does Barrager’s.
Welcome to SPS, Lisa!
