RCS High School Celebrates Career & Technical Education Month!
Happy Career & Technical Education Month! On Tuesday, February 14, 48 RCS sophomores visited the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education Centerβs Albany Campus! During their visit, they had the opportunity to learn about CTE through a group presentation, and then they visited a program of their choice to get some hands-on experience. The students had a fantastic time and are excited about the opportunities at CTE!

Ms. Kirkβs class celebrates Holidays around the world!
Over the last few months, Ms. Kirkβs class at A.W. Becker Elementary School has been spending time immersing themselves in different winter holidays! From Las Posadas to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and everything in between, they have been learning about each holiday and how it is celebrated all over the world! From class lessons to special projects, the students have had a wonderful time creating memories and discovering with their classmates. A big shout-out goes to Ms. Kirk, Mrs. LaBarge, and Ms. Keyer for providing these opportunities to their students!

PBC 4th-Graders Present Native American Studies Projects
Just before the February Break, Ms. Maroney's 4th-grade class presented their Native American Studies Project! Students spent the last few weeks researching and bringing to life their projects that centered around an aspect of Native American culture that the students selected to study. They then wrapped up the project by presenting it to their class and families.

RCS High School hosts Business Fair for juniors and seniors
On the Friday before the Winter Recess, over 100 interested juniors and seniors attended a Business Fair with local companies SABIC, Composite Technology & Infrastructure (CTI), Owens Corning, CSX, Ducommun, Fabcon Precast, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Students learned about local job opportunities, employment requirements, and future career paths. They also had the chance to ask questions and sign up for some upcoming tours of their facilities. Big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this a successful event, including our High School Librarian, Ms. Gollop & Certified Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Ms. Martin!

Elementary Schools host PBIS Assemblies!
At Pieter B., the PBC PBIS Team held its monthly PBIS Assembly, and this month they focused on the theme of responsibility! The team also invited some RCS High School student-athletes to be the special guests. The student-athletes were interviewed by a few 5th-grade students, speaking on how to be responsible in school and towards each other. They also played a few games to test their knowledge! Big thank you to the student guests and the PBIS assembly committee for an educational and delightful assembly!
At AWB, the A.W. Becker PBIS team held a school-wide digital assembly to refresh students on their PBIS goals, expectations, and initiatives. The students did a great job and ended the assembly with a super fun glow stick dance party! Big thank you to the entire AWB PBIS team for putting together such a wonderful event for the students!

RCS High School Social Studies Department celebrates Black History Month with a historical figures project
In celebration of Black History Month, all High School Social Studies classes participated in a gallery walk project in the history hallway! High School Teacher Mr. Adam Brady created a gallery walk of notable Black Americans, their stories, and their contributions to the worlds of science, technology, art, sports, government, and more. Students were asked to read through the presentation and answer some questions as it relates to themselves and the project.

AWB Welcome Bear gets a mini-makeover!
A.W. Becker Elementary School student Livia Kindlon noticed that the apple in the AWB Welcome Bearβs hand had seen better days, and this gave her an idea! Bringing it to life with the support of staff, Livia created a calculator for the Becker Bear. Great job, Livia! Read more about it in the article below!
Big thank you to Livia for this wonderful idea, as well as to Ms. Esmond, Mrs. Neubart, and STEAM teachers, Mrs. Brozowski and Mr. Verga, who donated a non-functioning calculator to the project.

District Fundraisers
Running & Upcoming Fundraisers:
*NEW DATE* The Class of 2025 Lights the Winter Night Walk: Enjoy an illuminated walk to a fire pit and enjoy some s'mores and hot cocoa! The event will take place at Sycamore Country Club on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with a $5 per person or $20 per family admission fee at the event. Price includes glow sticks, a s'mores kit, a coloring station, and your choice of a .5-mile trail or a 1-mile trail. Contact Information: Class Advisor Jennifer McCormack jmccormack@rcscsd.org
Class of 2024 -- Stadium Seat Cushions: The Class of 2024 will be selling seat cushions at soccer games, football games, and other sporting/spirit events for $15.00. The cushions come with a built-in handle and have the RCS logo printed on them. You can find representatives from the Class of 2024 at upcoming games in order to purchase. Class of 2023 -- Bottle and Can Collections: Bring your empty bottles and cans to Just Makes Cents at 2381 Route 9W in Ravena and ask them to apply your total to the Class of 2023 account. The fundraiser runs all year long. Contact Information: Class Advisor Suzette Clark at suzette.clark@rcscsd.org
