Haskin Happenings
Reach For The Stars

Principal's Desk
Haskin Families,
March is here, and with it comes a renewed focus on our Heart of Haskin core values. This month, we are highlighting Integrity—doing the right thing even when no one is watching. We see our students demonstrating honesty, responsibility, and strong character every day, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they support one another in our school community.
With Spring Break just around the corner, we encourage students to stay engaged, work hard, and finish the quarter strong. Warmer days and a well-deserved break are in sight, but there's still plenty of learning and growth happening in our classrooms. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students stay focused and motivated.
As the weather continues to warm up, we love seeing students enjoying fresh air and outdoor activities. Please remind your child to dress appropriately for the changing temperatures. We are looking forward to a great month filled with learning, kindness, and integrity!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Nenni

Student absences need to be called in by 8:15 am (815-786-8812) on the day of the absence for the safety of your student. There is an answering machine here at school, so you can call at any time to let us know if your student will not be present. An automated system will take calls before 7:00 a.m. If your child is not at school and we have not been contacted we will send out reminder messages. If contact cannot be made, please note that the absence will be considered UNEXCUSED.
Please know that if you receive an attendance letter it is part of our policy.
**If attendance is a concern you will receive a phone call from Mrs. Nenni or the office staff.**
Students shall be permitted no more than seven (7) excused absences, including vacations, per school year, based upon parental/legal guardian confirmation for the reasons of the absence. After the student has been excused seven times in one school year, additional excused absences for illnesses may only be verified through a written medical statement from a physician. For our full attendance policy, please refer to our student handbook.
5 Essentials
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our school district, and the individual schools within this school district, strive to provide the best possible education for our students. We gather data through various means to help guide us to improvement. It is called the 5Essentials and it is totally anonymous. Students, staff, and parents/guardians take this survey, and the data is then made available for all to see on our Illinois State School
Report Card. You may click on the link below to access this survey and then click, “Parent Survey.” We ask you to do your best, but if you are not sure of a question one way or the other, there is a “neutral” option. We appreciate the collaboration between home and school and this is just one way we can work together for the betterment of our students, and of course, better schools also create better property values. 🙂 This data helps our school to know what we are doing well and what we can improve on. Thank you for your support!

Parent Pathways: Preschool
Early Learning Essentials for Parents of our Littlest Learners
Attention Preschool Families! This series is designed to empower families with practical strategies to support young children's development and set them on a path for lifelong learning. Join us to connect with other parents, gain insights into early childhood milestones, and explore ways to create a nurturing learning environment at home.
Our Parent Pathways sessions are designed to provide a supportive and interactive hour for families. Each session begins with 25-minutes led by our parent educator, where parents can learn valuable insights and strategies, while preschool students are supervised and engaged in play in classrooms. Following the parent session, families will enjoy a 25-minute activity to practice new ideas together.
These are the dates of our Parent Pathways events from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.

Social Work Corner
Hello March!
The spring-like weather this week has really made me excited to be able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. I encourage all of you to spend some time outside and enjoy the fresh air. It really does help to connect with the world around you.
March is such a fun month! We have both St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th, and SEL (Social/Emotional Learning) Day on the 3rd. On top of that the whole month is National Social Work month! SEL Day is a newer celebration (it started in 2020) and is a day to focus on social-emotional learning to support children’s academic recovery, mental health, and well-being. While we do that every day here at Haskin, it is nice to know that there is a special day to celebrate it as well. Here are some fun activities that you can try to encourage more SEL at home. Engaging Students & Families in #SELday
Our core value for the month is Integrity. This value encompasses accountability and trustworthiness. It is all about doing the right thing, having strong moral values and being honest even when no one is watching. Our students work very hard on this throughout the year, so it is nice to have some time to focus on that as something so important for all of our students. We try to focus on helping our students understand the importance of making good choices and standing by their values. At home you can help to emphasize this value by modeling integrity, praising honest behavior, and discussing what integrity means.
I am available to chat with you if you have any questions or concerns or need any help. Please feel free to reach out. I am available at 815-786-8812 x24007 or at rhaskins@sandwich430.org.
Have a great March!
Sandwich Education Foundation
Sandwich CUSD #430,
My name is Allyn Ricci and I am an Instructional Math Coach for grades K-5, and I am also the President of the Board of Trustees for the Sandwich Education Foundation.
For anyone new to the district, the Sandwich Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 1994 to enhance educational opportunities for the students of Sandwich CUSD #430. The Board of Trustees is composed of teachers, parents, and community members who volunteer their time to support and enrich our schools. (And we are always looking for new members!) Through our fundraising efforts we have raised around $400,000 to date, with all profits going directly to the students and staff through grants and scholarships. Please find more information about our organization at this site. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our fundraising events in the past! We appreciate your willingness to continue to support our district in different ways.
Our largest fundraising event for the year will be our Family Trivia Night and Silent Auction. It will be hosted on Saturday April 12th from 6-8:30pm at Fox Valley Community Services Center in Sandwich with an entry fee of only $20/person! The Silent Auction will be open throughout the entire event. This will be an all ages, family event! A light dinner will be served and a cash bar will be available. Trivia and music will be provided by Sandwich’s own Rich Artman, All Pro DJ Karaoke and Trivia!

If you, your family, or a family friend own a business and would like to donate something to our Silent Auction, please let me know! All donations are tax deductible: EIN 36-3934485. There is also an opportunity to sponsor our event as an individual or as a business starting as low as $100; this includes free entries to the event!
