Carnival Tubing Outing ~ Friday, February 7: There will be a large team of teachers accompanying the boys tubing at Piedmont. At the beginning and end of each run there is a Piedmont monitor. There will also be a team of teachers tubing with the students, in the chalet, on the top of the hill and at the bottom of the runs. The school requires the wearing of helmets for this tubing activity. Ski or hockey helmets are preferred. Please ensure that your son brings his labelled helmet, a hearty bag lunch and extra clothing. A snack will be provided by the school in the morning and on the way home. Please send your child to school dressed and ready for the outside activity. If we decide to cancel, boys will stay at school, have regular classes and eat their bag lunch in school.
From the ES Learning Strategists: Recess Reflection will take place three days a week during afternoon recess for students in Grades 3-6 who struggle to cooperate, play respectfully, follow instructions, or show kindness to others during recess. This time will allow students to pause and reflect on their behavior, linking it to Veritas, helping them understand the impact of their actions and consider better choices moving forward. Our goal is to encourage personal growth and create a positive recess environment for everyone.
ASP (Afterschool Program) News: Extracurricular club options are now available! Clubs will begin on February 11th. Please fill out the form here by February 18th. Club registration is on a first come, first serve basis and spaces are limited. For any questions, please email asp@selwyn.ca.
Performance Speaker Event: All parents are invited to the first of Selwyn House School’s Performance Speaker Series. Dr. Aman Abye, performance therapist to high level athletes, will give a presentation to parents, staff and Old Boys on Wednesday, February 12 at 7 pm in Coristine Hall. His topic? The application of performance principles in the areas of academics, athletics, arts and activities. We will learn more about research in wellness, neuroscience and performance. He will also be spending two full days with our students and staff. This opportunity is a continuation of the programming done with our partner, The Concussion Legacy Foundation, and Executive Director Tim Fleiszer '92. Registration is free of charge. Please register here. Coffee will be provided. Donations to The Gryphon Fund are welcome.
Not too late to Donate: Great news! If you haven’t had the chance to take part in our Annual Giving Campaign yet but want to join others in making a meaningful impact, you can now claim any donation made by February 28, 2025, on your 2024 income tax return. A Message to Parents from the Montreal Police Service: This message was first shared in October 2024 but bears repeating. You are urged to read this infoletter in English or French
regarding safe and vigilant use of digital platforms by children.
Reminders
'
Reminders for all visitors (parents & guests): We remind all parents and guests to follow these safety measures when visiting Selwyn House:
Use the main entrance only. All visitors must come through the main doors of the Lucas building and sign in at the reception desk. Visitors can gain access to the Speirs and Macaulay buildings after they have signed in.
Sign in and out at the reception desk. All visitors must present themselves at the reception desk and receive a visitors badge so they are easily identified while they are at Selwyn House.
Afterschool Program (ASP) Pick Up: When picking up students from the afterschool program, visitors must use the main doors of the Lucas building and present themselves to the receptionist, security staff or the ASP office. The student will be brought to the front door for pick up. Visitors are not permitted to enter the classrooms or hallway areas to pick up a student.
Close the doors behind you. If an unfamiliar individual approaches the door as you're being buzzed in, kindly allow the door to close behind you so they can follow the visitor protocol as well. Prioritizing the safety of our students is always appreciated by our community!
