The Pulse of Dunbar

Dear Dunbar Families,

We are excited to share some of the fun and engaging events we have planned for the upcoming weeks at Dunbar Elementary Magnet School! These activities are designed to enrich our student's learning experiences while fostering a sense of community and joy. We look forward to seeing you and your child at these exciting events.

We had SO MUCH FUN at our big house reveal last month!

We use our house system to promote positive behavior, foster a sense of community, and encourage healthy competition among students. As of August 26th, students have been officially earning points towards their house!

All students are in a house that will stick with them all their years at Dunbar. If you wish to purchase house shirts or scrubs in your house color the front office staff has a list of students in each house so they can help you with what color to purchase.

Students in our 5th grade class are able to run for House Leaders. House leaders' speeches, applications, and posters are due to Ms. Kunis by Thursday, September 19th and voting will take place on our FIRST house meeting Friday, September 27th!

Encourage your children to show their PULSE every day, our first all house meeting will be on October 11th! This will be a big party for all students that have earned 85% or more of their points for the semester!

This month we start our partnerships with our medical partners where they will be coming into the classrooms and teaching hands-on medical curriculum for our students.

If you have a female student in grades 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th please look out for a permission slip packet in their folders for Girls Inc. Organwise. This program teaches developmentally appropriate topics such as healthy nutrition, exercise, and human organs and functions to our female students.

Keep an eye out, your child's teacher will be reaching out shortly to schedule a conference to go over student progress and goals! Conference Night is Thursday, September 19.

The week of September 16th-20th Dunbar will be participating in the Start with Hello Campaign. This Campaign is to help promote kindness and friendship among the students at our school. To make the week extra fun we will have dress up days as follows below:

Monthly SAC Meetings will be the 3rd Monday of each month.

Picture day will be on 9/20 and picture retakes will be on 10/17

Our biggest family night of the year! Students will get to participate in standards-based Halloween themed activities around Science, Literacy, Inquiry, Medical/Math and Exploration with their parents from 5-7pm. Our partners from Hyde Park United Methodist Church will be serving dinner on the covered court for all who attend! Flyers will be sent home soon. We hope to see you there!

Dunbar students are Drug Free! Help us celebrate Red Ribbon Week by dressing up for our Spirit Week!

5th grade parents, the Magnet application window should open beginning-mid November! To get your guaranteed Middle Magnet spot make sure to submit your application BEFORE the window closes!

Ms. Kunis will be hosting a Virtual 5th Grade Middle Magnet Information Session on October 23rd at 5:30 PM- This will give you all the information needed for Middle Magnets and application processes. Link to come.
