A Hoilday Visit from Principal Gallo
Twas the night before the holiday break, when all through the school
Not a teacher was stirring, not even the Mikes with a tool;
The decorations were hung by the doors with care,
In hopes that Mr. Gallo soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of the school playground danced in their heads;
And Mrs. Pugsley in her ‘kerchief, and Mr. C in his cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,
When out on the school yard there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the office to see what was the matter.
Away to the hallway I ran like a flash,
Pushed open the front doors and looked, hoping for some cash.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a black pickup truck, and 28 teachers with no fear.
With a little seen driver, so lively and tall,
I knew in a moment it must be principal Gallo, that's all.
His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
He was happy to be back, and wanted to do his work,
And filled all the classrooms with cheer ; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, he made the doors close;
He sprang to his truck , to his team of teachers he gave gave a whistle,
And away they all flew down main street like a missle .
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
”Happy Holiday Season Altavesta community, and all a good night.
