ATSI Plan Update
Dear Rainbow Families,
As I shared with you at the beginning of the year, Pennsylvania has identified Rainbow Elementary School as an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) school. ATSI schools are required to submit annual improvement plans to the state. Rainbow’s ATSI plan identifies and addresses root causes for reading performance concerns and indicates evidence-based practices for sustained improvement of learning.
At Back to School Night, we shared information about Rainbow’s improvement plan and quarterly targets. The purpose of this communication is to share the first quarter ATSI plan progress with Rainbow families.
I am proud to share with our families that we met our first quarter identified subgroups and building-wide measurable goals progress targets. As determined by the reading composite score of the Acadience Universal Screener, 25% of Rainbow students K-5 are reading at or above benchmark. This is a great starting point and as we work to meet our May building-wide goal of 70% of students in each grade level at or above benchmark in the reading composite score of the Acadience Universal Screener.
This progress reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students during MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) reading intervention. This growth could not be achieved without the support of our families. Thank you for all that you do to support your student’s academic growth and achievement at home. If you have any questions about your child’s reading progress or want more information on how to support your student’s reading growth at home, please contact your child’s teacher.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stauffer
Attendance Reminders
Dear Families,
We are thankful for you! As we prepare to take time off from school 11/26-11/29 for the Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra time off during the Thanksgiving break. If your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. However, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent.
A student is chronically absent from school when he or she has missed 10 percent of the school year. That is just 18 days per year, or 2 to 3 days a month. The absences can add up quickly! The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law and school policy require that every child of compulsory school age attend school daily.
May these days off be restful and relaxing! We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on Monday, December 2nd. Thank you for partnering with us!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Stauffer and Mr. Kuciapinski

Volunteer and Field Trip Chaperone Information
Dear Rainbow Families,
As the school year is underway, I would like to inform you of the Coatesville Area School District school board approved policy No.916: Volunteers. The purpose of this policy is to recognize that volunteers can make valuable contributions to the school district. All schools within the district encourage the use of volunteers subject to the requirements of Applicable Law and this policy.
There are two distinct definitions within the policy regarding volunteers and helpers.
· Volunteer: an adult applying for or performing an unpaid position as a volunteer who is responsible for the welfare of a child or children or having direct contact with children. A volunteer may supervise students without the presence of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Volunteers may undertake activities such as: field trip chaperones, tutoring students, and assisting before, during or after school activities.
· Helper: an adult who provides help or assistance in an event or function, but who does not meet the definition of a volunteer whereas the helper is not responsible for the welfare, care, supervision, guidance or control of a child or children independently of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Helpers may undertake activities such as: class part, cafeteria help, material preparation, assisting a teacher in the classroom.
Adults who meet the definition of a volunteer under Applicable Law or under this policy shall be required to complete a registration/disclosure form and provide the following:
a) Act 34 State Police History Report
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
b) Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance Statement
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home.
c) Act 114 FBI Background Check (not required if you have been a PA resident during the entirety of the previous 10 year period) Ø The cost of this clearance is $22.60 https://uenroll.identogo.com/workflows/1KG6XN
d) Tuberculosis Test
Helpers need only to have their photo identification scanned into our Navigate 360 Visitor Management upon entering the school building.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stauffer
