A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan Families,
As we have officially wrapped up this school year, I want to say a heartfelt goodbye to our wonderful fourth grade students as they make their way to DPM and beyond. This class has been through a lot together as we forged our way through the past 5 years. They have spirit that will be greatly missed in the halls of Sheridan. Please remember that once you are a Shark, you are ALWAYS as Shark! Come back and visit!
I also want to bid our beloved Mrs. Newtown a heartfelt good-bye as she sails into the retirement. She has left her mark her, for sure! We wish you all the best in your travel and golf adventures!
To everyone who will be returning to Sheridan next year…have the best, best summer and make sure to complete your Summer Bingo! Bring it back in August for a prize!
To anyone who will not be returning to Sheridan in the fall, please know you have made an imprint on all of us here and you will be greatly missed. Please keep in touch!
And lastly, as we bid our fourth graders farewell, we will also get ready to welcome a new class of Kindergartners! Please see these Kindergarten Events as we ramp up to welcome you!
As always, thank you for entrusting us with the care of your children. It is truly a privilege to work with all of our Sharks! We look forward to seeing you in August!
While I will be taking some vacation throughout the summer, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
Sincerely,
Susan

World Language for Elementary Students in 2024-2025
See a Reminder Below and Newly Added FAQ!
As you are aware, all 2nd through 4th grade students at Cherokee, Everett, and Sheridan Elementary School receive Spanish instruction multiple times per week as part of their specials rotations.
Historically, Cherokee has also offered Mandarin instruction for five days a week starting in Kindergarten. If you are an Everett or Sheridan family, you’ve had the opportunity to request a permissive transfer to Cherokee to enroll in Mandarin.
What’s Changing?
For the 2024-2025 school year, all Spanish instruction will remain the same. However, Mandarin will no longer be offered in Kindergarten. Other notes:
Current students in Kindergarten Mandarin will receive 5 days of Mandarin instruction as first-graders, while 2nd through 4th grade Mandarin students will mirror the amount of other world language instruction.
What if I Want My Child to Take Mandarin?
You are still welcome to request a permissive transfer. All students will automatically take Spanish as their world language starting in second grade unless families request a permissive transfer or utilize the form below to request Mandarin (starting in second grade).
As a reminder, the opportunity to take Mandarin, starting in second grade, is open to all District 67 schools and will only be offered at Cherokee Elementary School. Bus transportation will not be provided for permissive transfers.
Everett and Sheridan families: To request a permissive transfer and have your child enrolled in the Mandarin program beginning in 2nd grade, see the information located HERE. Due by July 1, 2024.
Cherokee families: To request Mandarin as your child’s world language instead of Spanish beginning in 2nd grade, please fill out the form located HERE. Only families not currently enrolled in Mandarin need to fill this out. Due by July 1, 2024.
NEW ADDITION: Are you looking for more information? Please see the FAQ HERE!
