Dear Robert Hunter Families,
Welcome back! This past week, we hit the ground running, re-establishing routines and diving into engaging lessons. As we continue the momentum, we want to remind you that NWEA MAP testing will resume next week, allowing us to measure growth and set new goals for the remainder of the year.
The Harlem Wizards visited our school to talk about the upcoming game that they will be playing with RH teachers. See more information about the district’s Harlem Wizard event in the PTO section of the newsletter below.
Additionally, we are looking forward to celebrating our talented students at the 4th Grade Winter Concert. Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to a fantastic start to the new year!

Emergency Schedule Changes
With winter weather here, unplanned delayed openings, early dismissals, and school cancellations may occur. In the event of a change to the school schedule, the district calls families and also sends an email. You can also check the website, and you will see a message on the first page. The district may notify parents at any time of the night or early morning.
For a delayed opening, the school day will start 90 minutes later than normal, which is 10:25 am. If you are dropping off your child, the drop-off line is open between 10:15-10:25. We can not let students into the building before the school day begins, including when school is delayed due to weather. If your child(ren) takes the bus, they should arrive at the bus stop 90 minutes later than normal. If buses arrive late to the school for any reason, children will not be marked late.
It is important that families have a plan for delayed openings, early dismissals, and school closures because winter weather is unpredictable. Also, please make sure that your contact information is updated and accurate on Genesis Parent Portal.
Lunch with the Principal
Throughout the year, students will be invited to have lunch with the principal. This is optional, and students will receive an invitation from their teacher. If your child shares that they were invited to have lunch in the principal’s office, please know that this is a positive opportunity for students!
Preschool Lottery Opens
The preschool lottery is now open. Click here for the form. You may email preschoolexpansion@frsd.us or call the preschool office line on the district website with any questions.
4th Grade Winter Concert
Robert Hunter's Winter Concert, "Tropical Tunes" is coming up on Thursday, January 9. The 4th Grade Chorus and recorder students will be performing a selection of warm-weather melodies to chase our winter blues away! Students need to arrive at school at 6:30 for the 7:00 evening concert. The students will also be performing for the whole school at 9:30 am on January 9th. Families who are unable to attend the evening concert may join the morning performance; you will need to contact the office by January 8 to make that arrangement.
Robbie's Recognition
We encourage families to take some time to recognize our fantastic staff members throughout the school year. You can use the Google form here to submit a Robbie’s Recognition for a staff member, and we will read aloud your recognition to our staff. You can either add your name or recognize a staff member anonymously.
From the PTO:
We hope that you had a wonderful winter break with friends and family!
As we continue to support and enhance the educational experience for students, we are reaching out to invite you to get more involved in our school community by considering a position on the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Board.
The PTO is a vital part of our school, working alongside teachers and administrators to provide fun events, fundraisers, and support for our students. However, we cannot do it alone – we need you! By joining the board, you’ll have a direct impact on the programs and activities that make our school special.
We are currently looking for passionate and committed parents to fill the following board positions:
- President
- Vice Presidents
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Event Coordinators
These positions are a great opportunity to contribute to the school community, meet fellow parents, and help shape the direction of the PTO’s initiatives.
No experience is necessary – just a willingness to volunteer your time and energy to make a positive difference. If you’re interested or would like to learn more, please send us an email at roberthunterpto@gmail.com or attend our next PTO meeting in March. We’d love to have you join us!
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to working together to create a thriving school environment for our children and we hope you will join us at some upcoming events.
