High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Mr J Bentley, Director of 6th Form
As we step into the final stretch of the academic year, there’s a great deal to celebrate and be proud of here at Colton Hills. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have entered the exam season with focus and determination. Before half term, both year groups marked the end of an important chapter with emotional leavers’ assemblies — a fitting send-off as they prepare for their next adventures. We wish them every success in their exams and beyond and hope to see many of our Year 11's return to our fantastic Sixth Form!
We're looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 students back for their Sixth Form Induction Day on Tuesday 8th July. This important day will help them prepare for the next stage of their journey here at Colton Hills. A letter with full details will be sent to Year 11 parents and carers in the coming week. We're also excited to be hosting a Year 10 Sixth Form Taster Day on Wednesday 9th July, giving students a chance to experience a day in the life of a sixth former!
Meanwhile, the energy across the rest of the school remains as vibrant as ever. From heart and eye dissections in Science, to beach walks and castle explorations in Gelliwig, our students continue to engage in hands-on, enriching experiences. A huge congratulations to our Star of the Week winners and to our entire school community for achieving the National School Attendance Award — a testament to the commitment of our families, students and staff alike.
There’s plenty more to read about below, including exciting fundraising news, student achievements and upcoming opportunities for our student leaders. As always, thank you for your continued support.
Science Practicals
As part of their Science “Organisation” topic looking at body organs and organ systems, Year 9 students have been dissecting hearts with Mr Fenney, to appreciate the structures and vessels in the organ itself. They also learnt the saying "tugging at your heart-strings"!
Last week, Year 8 students have been dissecting eyeballs to support learning the eye structure and function. Having removed the lens wholly from the eye, they are able to demonstrate how changing the shape of the eye changes the appearance of text on a page.
Star of the Week Treats with Mr Begley
As a reward for their Star of the Week nominations last term by their respective Year Team, students have been treated to some goodies with Mr Begley at Friday's form time on Friday, 6 June. Congratulations to Divya and Kevin on being the lucky shopping voucher winners. Well done on their nominations, keep up the good work!
Germany Exchange Trip
This year, the Year 9 students on the German exchange had some incredible days out, including an exciting day at a theme park, an incredibly interesting showroom and factory tour at WV Wolfsburg, the largest car manufacturing plant in Europe. They also had a rare opportunity to visit the military helicopter training centre at Achum! The students even got to see the processes of creating a factory-fresh VW car and sit in the helicopters cockpits and jump seats in the hangars! All of this was made possible by the hard work of the staff and students at our partner school IGS Helpsen, whom we can’t wait to invite to Wolverhampton in September. Lastly, we are very thankful for the dedicated Colton Hills staff who chaperone our students on trips like this, enabling us to carry on this tradition annually.
National School Attendance Award, Spring 2025
Colton Hills has been awarded the National School Attendance Award for achieving excellent student attendance on our Spring Term 2025! We are in the top 25% schools nationally. Thank you to our families for their support and also our staff for their hard work.
Great Adventures at Gelliwig
Our Year 7 students who are currently on their residential visiting Gelliwig, our school residential accommodation in Wales, have had a fun few days traipsing on the beach, exploring Castell Caernarfon and enjoying rock climbing amongst many other activities. We are so lucky to be able to continue to offer this opportunity to our students every year. We hope they make some wonderful memories with their friends that will last a lifetime!
NEW LGBTQ Display in PE
Our LGBTQ+ sports display is now up in the PE corridor! Featuring a range of sports personalities from diving to rugby to motorsport racing, we are committed to embracing #diversity and #inclusivity in Colton Hills.
Catering Team raises over £2,500 for Cancer Research
Our kitchen colleagues raised just over £2500 at a Race for Life event last month which took place in West Park, Wolverhampton. They are doing it for close family members who are currently living with cancer, for family and friends they have lost and also a member of their kitchen team who recently had the all clear. Coincidentally, their warm ups was led by none other than our Mr Scott in attendance! We are very proud of these lovely ladies and their amazing effort for this great cause.
Junior Maths Challenge Participants
Well done to all the students who took part in the Junior Maths Challenge last week! they should be proud of their hard work and problem-solving skills. Keep challenging yourselves! Special mention to the students featured who achieved the best results!

Pencil the date in your diary for 14 November 2025! Its their 45th annual dinner and dance fundraiser and it promises a great night of music, dance and celebrations at Wombourne Civic Centre.
