Principal's message
We just finished Red Ribbon Week encouraging all students to keep their "Paws" off of drugs. Some great activities included some firsts, a puppy-day and a powerful presentation on overdose victims and first-responders headed up by students and staff from SADD and Officer Matt Staples along with several members of NVPD and the Jennings County Sheriff.
It is official, Jennings County High School remains a B school this year missing an A by only one percentage point. We continue to strive to meet the needs of our students and their families in the best ways possible offering more TGEC opportunities than any other area school with 45 dual credit classes, insuring quality vocational opportunities to nearly ever member of our student body, and producing possibly the strongest visual and performing arts programs in Southeast Indiana.
Construction has begun on the new sports turf football/soccer field which will be followed immediately with a new track surface. Much of the soil from the field will be redistributed to areas around the district in need of quality top soil (soccer complex at Sand Creek, etc.). We are extremely appreciative of the time and hard work from our planning team. Our students/athletes and community deserve the best, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure they have it. These projects are scheduled for completion this coming spring. New projects are scheduled to follow as we mean to update/upgrade several more facilities for our students in the coming years.
In sports, our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams again advanced to the semi-state. The boys were able to advance again for the second year in a row to the state finals in Terre Haute, Indiana where they finished 16th in the state. Outstanding job! We are very proud. Winter sports are underway, and we're excited.
The second 9-weeks mid-term is next week, November 16th. Progress reports will be available in Skyward on the 17th. We practice our first off-line e-learning day Friday November 17th, as well, in preparation for inclement weather this winter, and Thanksgiving Break is fast approaching with a three day vacation starting Wednesday November 22nd. ISTEP testing begins again December 4th, and finals will be the week of December 18th. It's a busy time between now and Christmas Break. Hold on for the ride. WE ARE JC!

Business
Over 200 Preparing for College & Career students are getting ready for their “Mock” job interview on November 29 and 30th in the Media Center. This interview follows an employment project where students apply for a job at one of the following companies: Kohl’s, Rural King, American Eagle, JayC, Bath and Body Works, Pizza Hut, Bob Evans, Save-a-Lot, Starbucks, TJ Maxx, or Red Lobster. Students then conduct internet research on the company, complete the job application, create their own personal targeted resume, and targeted cover letter to accompany the application. Students are asked to dress up on the day of the interview.
This Mock Interview is a life-skill experience for students and is meant to help prepare them for the multiple interviews they will have in the future. It is an opportunity for them to learn and grow, become more comfortable with the entire job search/interview process, and feel confident in the next interview they face.

Foreign Language
The Spanish classes have been busy building Ofrendas for the Day of the Dead. We have cut paper flowers, colored paper banners, decorated skulls, and made altars for the annual celebration. Students brought in pictures and items to present about loved ones. The festival culminated with food from Spanish speaking countries.
Spanish Club is currently taking dues. Anyone in Spanish 2,3,4,5 can join for $5. See your Spanish teacher for information. We will be ordering t shirts this month. We will have movie nights, and dinner nights at Las Chalupas planned.
